Great deal for this computer. I have the 1040 and really like it. For those that don't bike longer distances and don't use many sensors, you may be able to get away with using your phone. For those who ride longer distances and/or use lots of sensors a bike computer is a huge upgrade. I have dual leg power, Di2 electronic shifting data, heart rate, glucose (I have type 1 diabetes and the Garmin can display my blood sugar value from my Dexcom), cadence, speed, etc all paired to my bike computer and the battery lasts 40+ hours on a single charge. Route navigation, crash detection, etc all excellent to have.

It's wild how many people take the time to comment how you don't need to buy something on a site about buying things....
It's not for you, then it's ok to move on!

Wow, thanks for that groundbreaking tip! I never realized my phone could do anything besides text and calls. I'll just strap it to my handlebars next to my cassette collection!

You dont need a bike computer. Get a Garmin watch. Put it around your bike handle. Now you can use watch for running, walking, etc. besides just biking.
Agreed! if you are into multi sport or triathlon even… but you'll find on longer rides you'll want a dedicated bike computer.

Yes, I bought a pool cleaner bot from them about 4 months ago.

Garmin has a massive business with expensive devices that have functions that are redundant to your phone. Consider that they still make money, maybe there's a reason for their products that you don't understand?

This is what I do. I use an EPIX Gen 2, and bought an external HR strap and bike mount. I also have the cadence sensor, speed sensor, and smart back light with radar.

I wish the screen was bigger, but it tracks the ride perfectly, navigation is a breeze, and it's a more versatile solution than a dedicated bike computer which would be too expensive for my taste. The watch handles connectivity to all sensors extremely well and the battery lasts multiple days with the GPS always on.

Google Maps doesn't have topographic maps with all global trails, and good luck keeping your phone/display on with GPS for 10+ hours (Garmin worldwide maps are free and stored locally on your device)

Epix has an undefeatable screen timeout/dimming. This makes it impossible to read for many conditions, at least for the rides I tried this on, without tapping the watch to wake the display. Dedicated bike computer is a big improvement and I wouldn't go back. It's more doable with a MIPS watch like Fenix, but with the Epix, it was too frustrating for me personally.

Source: Have an Epix. Tried it as a bar mounted bike computer. Went into dedicated bike computers instead and now have owned/tried many. It's way better.

(For the record, I'm not the one that downvoted you - if you can make it work and save the $$, then great.)

Every single bike computer/accessory thread has the "Use your phone!! These are stupid" crowd.
