Goharddrive is a solid company, which ships drives quickly, and has a hassle free return policy. However, their quality control is poor in my personal experience. You may end up having to play the lottery before getting what you need.
Here's what I have purchased from them in the last year –
2024-08-26 HUH721212ALE601 (12 TB) Returned
2024-07-28 HUH721212ALE601 (12 TB) Kept
2024-07-15 HUH721212ALE601 (12 TB) Kept
2024-07-11 HUH721010ALE604 (10 TB) Returned
2023-08-14 HUH721010ALE601 (10 TB) Returned
Each of these drives were 3-4 years old (I appreciate that Goharddrive does not wipe SMART data unlike some resellers). Reason for the returns were each of the drives had "unhealthy drive" status in unraid, and loads of SMART errors.
Defect rate for the 12 TB drives was 33% (same drive that is being sold in the ad). Overall defect rate for all of my Goharddrive purchases was 60%. Too small of a sample size to draw any broad conclusions, but something to keep in mind if you have time sensitive project, and are not risk tolerant. (I ended up buying the same hard drive, albeit recertified from serverpartdeals, a reputable company, for $20 more. No errors whatsoever).
I have a good opinion of HGST drives, based on HD reliability stats published by Backblaze, and personal anecdotal experience. In fact, I have a used HUS724020ALE641 4TB drive which I bought from go hard drive 6 years ago, and it's still going strong.
Bottom line, this a good drive, a good deal, sold by a good company, but you may have to play the used hard drive lottery and do some returns. If you are looking for something more certain and less risky, buy a manufacturer recertified drive (not seller refurbished). Goharddrive and serverpartdeals sell them.
