I used the 7 day free trial in the past, which seems to disqualify me from using this promo. This service has quite a good collection of eclectic and foreign films. I was not happy with their support, however, in that when I first tried the service, the movies only played PCM Stereo audio, so I emailed them to see if everything was working properly or whether that was all they streamed in......and they had me undergo a bunch of troubleshooting steps which only wasted time and a month or two later, they finally got back to me, that they only stream in PCM 2.0, (stereo). It would be nice if first level support knew basic facts like that., I do think it may be worth your trying....if you like this kind of movie.....and if the stereo sound is not limiting to you (some of the same movies play on MAX with Dolby 5.1 sound).

As an addendum.....although on the main page it said the promo code could not be used......when I actually went into the page where you enter the credit card info, it actually accepted the promo code for $20 off. I may try this...this year or down the road again....given the grouping of movies here, some of which you cannot find anywhere else. Many of the Criterion collection films are restored versions of classic films. Keep in mind as I stated above, that if you already subscribe to MAX they offer many of these films as part of their subscription as well. You can view the movies currently available and often those for the next/upcoming month on the criterion channel site.

Indeed, there's some overlap in film selection between Criterion Channel and other streaming services.

One thing unique to the Criterion Channel (AFAIK) is that if a film is on the Channel and it's also part of the Criterion Collection (i.e., it has a physical disc release with Criterion), then most/all of the bonus features are also on the Channel. So if you enjoy commentary, essays, interviews with cast & crew, and other behind-the-scenes junk, there's a good amount of that on the Criterion Channel.

When I used the free trial a while back they didn't have the feature to continue where you left off. Maybe it was the browser I was using.

Interesting. I can't comment on watching via browser. But when I watch via Roku app, if I stop in the middle, it does save my place for later.
