Costco baking soda, 12 lbs for around $7.00. Has how much to add to pool on back of package to raise alkalinity. Been using for years.. Add Costco baking soda to raise alkalinity after rain and keep chlorine at proper level, never worry about pH. Kept my pool for 30 years and never a problem.
I need chlorine back at .50-$1a pound

Muriatic acid 1 gallon from Lowe's or HD
Walmart has twin packs of Muriatic acid and liquid chlorine but usually during summer season. My local one in Vegas starting to put them away for fall/winter merchandise.

Adding pH Up never made sense. Pool pH naturally increases on its own if left unchecked. Chlorine is also more effective at lower pH levels (7.2 and below). And red eye irritation is caused by high pH (not low pH or high chlorine) like above 7.8+
Pool pH will drop over time if left unchecked because of rain. Rain water is slightly acidic and lowers the pH of pool over time.

In my hot tub, I only need to add Chlorine and pH Up (not down). Maybe I'm going something wrong or my test strips are bad, but that's what the test strips say to do.

Ace Hardware has MA for much less, and Ace has great reward member coupons. Currently buy an Ace gift card for $50, free $10 card.

In my area Ace is never cheaper than anywhere else they just have a better selection. MA is $10/gal at Ace and $9/gal at HD for me.
