Microcenter's regular price says $30. Also there's a newer JBL Go 4 model. Anyone have experience with this compared to their Charge series speakers?

Yes, it is significantly better than any phone's speakers (iPhone or otherwise). It plays way louder, and with much better range (i.e., there's a little bass that no phone will ever manage). The tiny little speakers on a phone are not even in the same ballpark.
I have one of these and it's been a great little speaker. The size and shape make it fit in larger pockets (jacket/coat, cargo shorts, etc), and the carry loop is great if you add a carabiner for easily and quickly attaching it to backpack straps, belt lops, etc.

Keep your expectations in check and it holds its own quite well. The bass extension can't compare with the Charge, and the volume won't go near it, either. Physics means that there are always going to be audio tradeoffs. It also doesn't have the battery life of the Charge, although it's always lasted long enough for me to make it through any listening session.
However, it's also a lot smaller, lighter, and more convenient. The Charge is big enough that you have to make a real decision to bring it along, or carry it, or pack it. The JBL Go is small enough and easily attaches to your backpack/belt-loop/etc (with an added carabiner that they should have included with the speaker, IMO), and it makes it a no-brainer to bring it along. For me, the Charge is great for around the house, or out on the deck, or if I'm going to have a place to stash it (like a car). But, I'm not likely to bring it along all the time. The Go is small enough that I grab it any time I think I might want some music. It's also great when clipped to a belt for listening to an audiobook around the house when I don't feel like wearing headphones/earbuds.
