Don't see how ~$12 for 3lbs of any rice is a slickdeal.

This is a premium rice in premium packaging at a premium price. It's an individual choice whether the rice and packaging are good value at that price.

Iris mills and cleans the rice really well, and then seals it in pouches that contain a volume of 2 Japanese rice cups, together with a packet of dessicant. The rice stays absolutely fresh for a long time.

I like the taste and texture of this rice, although I actually prefer the taste of the Iris koshihikari sushi rice from Niigata even more. (That one has been out of stock for a while.)

I've tried a few of the California koshihikari rices. They taste good but not quite as good as the Iris, and they require a lot more rinsing to get clean, so I prefer to pay the premium for the Iris. That's not the cheapest solution, and if I ate huge volumes of rice maybe I'd go for larger volume bags to save money, but for my uses it's a really good solution.
