Finally a ZG chair that somewhat fits my Scandinavian decor. Sold me was the combo of lumbar massage/heat, and glute massage, which I found on a Youtube short.

I chose fake leather this time. Main reason I'm replacing my current ZG chair is due to the bonded leather tearing and separating. Granted I got nearly 20 years of service out of it, but other fake leather items I've seen tend to look better as they get use/age.

Are you sure this fake leather will last awhile? I just threw out an old chair with fake leather that basically started peeling and disintegrating after 6 years or so, it was a pretty cheap chair though.

Not entirely certain. I should have given up on my leather chair about a decade ago, I simply threw a throw blanket over it to hide the tears. It too has memory foam beneath the leather covering, so I wondered if the softness of the underlayer contributed to it's demise. Foam is intact, so I could recover the old chair, and I would need to use fake to restore it, so I assumed the added flexibility of fake could be an advantage to durability.

Vegan Leather = Vinyl
The marketing genius who came up with this.
Bonded leather is no more leather than wood veneer over pressboard is wood.
Nothing beats a quality leather, except for cost of the material. And for those who care about the environment. If I toss a "vegan leather" surface out, it breaks down into micro-plastics that float around for a millennea. Real leather is biodegradeable, it will decompose andl return to the earth from which it came.

Bonded leather = little leather scraps glued together and then bonded to some sort of fabric or PU. It is the worst possible version of leather.

Genuine leather is the next worst. I would never buy either of those types of leather.
Split leather, top grain, and finally full grain is the best in that order. I would buy any of these.

I have had this chair (rather the XT 2 version with leather cover) for about a year now. I think the XT 1 version was around $1200 at that time, just for reference. This looks like a good deal. I will give some pros and cons.

Pros: It is quite as comfortable as any ZG chairs go. It looks nice and not so bulky as gigantic massage chairs. The adjusted pillow is definitely nice. The light massage feature is decent, and heat is strong. Cushioning is not very noticeable, though.

Cons: I have quite a few cons, but it could be just me neatpicking. It's a great chair, but since I had paid so much for it, I wish some things were better.

First, it sits quite tall. I am 5'10", and my feet do not touch the ground while sitting upright. This makes it quite awkward when I have company and just want to sit up and talk.

Second, as you can imagine, massage is very whimpy. Don't get it expecting a great massage. It is better than nothing.

Third, adjustable lumbar support is very poorly designed. I simply do not use this feature. Also, it only lasts for 15 minutes and shuts down automatically (and sits me back up). There are no options for longer sessions.

Fourth, heat can get too much. After 5 minutes, I have to turn it off.

Fifth, there is no place to put the remote. Really? This is just a lazy design. A few times, it got into the cracks while sitting up, and it almost crushed the remote. A serious design flaw.

One commenter asked about ease of moving this. The answer is no. I would not be moving this thing around the house.

It's not practical to use real leather on a massage chair

Is it easy to take the parts upstairs and then assemble? Thanks.

It may not be so easy. It comes almost fully assembled. All you need to do is to unfold it and put the cover on. It may be possible with a hand truck if the staircase is wide enough for the dimensions of the chair.
