I managed to buy a Shun Premier Blonde 8" for $89 + tax when the sale started this morning.
I got that one too. I think the 6" is actually cheaper right now on Amazon.
I also got a Pro Asian Utility 7" for another $18, basically for the same reason. Neither of these are made from alloys that I currently have. Plus the blonde is my first Shun, which is why the 8" is such a great deal because I have a lot of knives that size and configuration for direct comparison.

Depends I own and love several of the classics, including the 8" chefs knife. Currently you can get this knife new for 135 from cooks warehouse. I'm lucky enough to live in Atlanta so I can actually walk in and try them out but regardless is the $45 price difference worth guaranteed new vs possibility of cosmetic damage of this sale... that's for you to decide.
At that price, definitely. I don't know yet how VGMAX differs from VG10, but both are very hard steels that you won't need sharpen very often if you take care of them. Plus Shun will sharpen them for you I would imagine for the price of postage.

The cosmetic flawed ones are clearly identified on the product pages.

Factory Seconds will have "xxxx" clearly engraved on the knife body. This Premier Blonde 8" Chef for $89 is supposed to be First quality.
