Personally I just went the used route. Found one with the sensor and 100% battery in good condition and saved a couple hundred bucks
The main new features you get with Ultra 2 are:
Double tap gesture support
On-device Siri with health access
Precision finding for iPhone
Hardware differences on the Ultra 2 vs. 1
1000 extra nits brightness on the Ultra 2
S9 Chip (vs S8 on Ultra 1)
64gb storage (vs 32gb on Ultra 1)
Gen 2 Ultra Wide-band chip (gen 1 on Ultra 1)
72 hours of battery life in low power mode (vs 60 on Ultra 1)
Ultra 1 would have Blood Oxygen if made and not refurbished before 2024 (from my understanding)
Not a noticeable difference in any way to 99% of users.

So far the refurb seems to be working fine and battery lasting as advertised with no cosmetic blemishes that I can see. Will be returning the Amazon one.
Like others have said though, I would ask for a replacement and mention that it was not factory sealed. Hopefully Amazon doesn't give you trouble with this.

I had to work to get mine at an even lower price. I bought six eBay gift cards using my Target Red Card. I bought:
2x $200
2 x $50 + 100
I bought the $200 GCs in two separate transactions, then the $50 and $100 twice together in two transactions. I did this because I had a Target Red Card offer where if you made four separate $130+ transactions, you'd get a $40 Circle credit for use on anything.
You can only use four gift cards per transaction on eBay, so I could only use $550 in gift cards on the watch and paid the rest with my CC for the taxes. But I'll easily use the other $150 on eBay between now and Christmas.
So, with the Red Card, I got 5% off the gift cards, plus $40 back in Target Circle. It took some work, but it was worth it.
