No, but nor are they necessarily worse.

The Kasa energy monitoring power strip and energy monitoring smart plugs work with the Sense home energy tracking system (for those who have that installed), whereas the Tapo energy monitoring devices don't.

I have some of both. Both Kasa and Tapo devices work with the Tapo app (but Tapo devices don't work with the Kasa app). The newer Tapo devices have slightly better features in some cases; but in general they work the same from a user point of view.

Thanks I do have Sense and Kasa as well as Tapo. I'm just afraid they're gonna cancel one of them and I'll lose support.

I think eventually they will phase out of releasing new Kasa devices, and then of manufacturing existing ones, but they haven't yet started to do that. I don't think they will abandon support of Kasa devices, even after they stop making them.

If you want future-proof, Matter-certified devices are supposed to work even with other manufacturers' app ecosystems, with no server-side support from the original manufacturer.

I have a bunch of Kasa switches and just ordered a couple Tapo switches - I'm curious to see if they are identical except for branding.

Power strip has bonus 20% cashback on prime card for a total of 25% cashback. I believe that's the lowest ever price on it with inclusion of cashback.

Kasa is not being phased out. Tapo is the alternative budget line.

Kasa and Tapo are from the same parent company. In short, Kasa has more features, Tapo is the budget line. Search "Kasa vs Tapo" to see the differences.

I could be wrong so please research to verify. Search "Kasa vs Tapo."

Main difference I can see is Kasa allows you to set scenes, where Tapo is only simple controls and scheduling.

This thread makes me confused.

My understanding was that Kasa was the original TP-Link smart home line before Matter came out. Tapo is their new line that is Matter compatible while Kasa is not. TP-Link decided not to discontinue the Kasa line (yet) and sell both Kasa and Tapo simultaneously.

Can this smart plug control multiple devices at once, or is it limited to just one device per plug?

There are multiple smart plugs listed here. Some have multiple plugs (2 or 6 sockets), while others are multi-packs of single plugs. In each case, you can independently control all of the plugs on the smart plug/strip.

If you plug a power strip full of devices into a smart plug, and turn that smart plug off, it turns the whole power strip off.
