Agreed.

Any tricks to make this cheaper? Like can we get Steam cards at 10% off anywhere and use them for this?

… it's a $300 handheld that needs to balance resolution, refresh rate, and battery life. Not a $2K desktop for you to run Fortnite at 300 FPS.

Show me the S21 running the new God of War, or Last of Us, or Cyberpunk 2077 like the Steam Deck can.

Yet a certified refurbished Galaxy S21 that costs only $200 has double the hz than this and lasts for hours gaming...
Android phone vs a handheld pc. Talk about apples vs oranges. What's the obsession over refresh rate. I don't know of any handhelds that are pushing 120fps. Even this generation of consoles struggle to do 60 in performance mode or 30 with high fidelity.

I have base model and regret it becuz screen just aint great.

Get the OLED. It has other improvements like massively faster WiFi standard and increased internal hardiness for opening closing repeatedly

Just bought the 512GB for my wife. She has been jealous of mine so I figured at this price it's a steal.

If you're a spec sheet gamer the steam deck is not for you.

As for me, I'm a minimum friction to gaming gamer, making the steam deck perfect for me. Wait till the fam and wife go to bed, grab my deck and go to town.

Yes, Genshin Impact (a mobile cartoon game) is the same as God of War, Last of Us, and Cyberpunk 2077. That is a very keen observation.

During the last steam deck sale, I used GameStop pro membership to buy steam cards at a discount. I had recently purchased a $200 series x from woot that I traded in to GS with a trade in bonus, used those funds to buy the steam cards. Ended up with a 512gb for about $250 oop. I'm pretty sure that if GameStop doesn't have the steam cards in stock in store they can print you out a digital one but I could be wrong

If you don't have a deck yet I also recommend getting the LCD 64gb version and throwing in a 1TB or 2TB. I think it's straight forward and a bit easy to swap the SSD out but if you are unsure there are youtube videos on how to do it. If you don't want to swap out the SSD then just get the 512 version. and throw in a micro SD card. I now use the deck more than my gaming laptop.

Who games at 60 hz? Worse than a smartphone that has 120 hz.
Me, for like 35-40 years now? Sure, I messed around with pushing my CRTs but I wasn't exclusive to those higher rates.

Unfortunately steam gc rarely go on sale. There was a gamestop deal for 10% off a week or two ago but that's gone and you won't see another one for awhile. You should just buy it regularly if you want it at this price.

Interestingly timed with when the Switch 2 is supposed to be announced... I imagine the Steam Deck might see more deals soon?
I doubt it has much to do with switch 2 which we know has been coming for ages but more to do with them just dumping old stock so they can focus on oled. We could say it's a response to ps5pro reveal....pfft hahaha. LMAO

At this price, I highly recommend going with the 512gb model. Back when it released it was cheaper to just get a micro sd or add an SSD with the extra storage, but for only $40 imo it's an easy choice. I have the rog ally z1 extreme or I'd buy this in an instant.
One thing to note is the 512GB has a matte display and colors do look a bit more washed out compared to glossy.

If one prefers glossy display and is comfortable with tinkering, 64GB Deck + 1-2TB M.2 2230 SSD might be a better option.

What are you taking about,, Genshin Impact don't even run that well on Snapdragon Gen 2,, and that's 2 gen newer than what's in S21
