Agreed.

Any tricks to make this cheaper? Like can we get Steam cards at 10% off anywhere and use them for this?

… it's a $300 handheld that needs to balance resolution, refresh rate, and battery life. Not a $2K desktop for you to run Fortnite at 300 FPS.

Show me the S21 running the new God of War, or Last of Us, or Cyberpunk 2077 like the Steam Deck can.

I've really been wanting one of these for a while now but I'm still holding out for some kind of deal on an OLED one. 6nm vs 7nm, 90hz instead of 60hz, better battery life and of course the OLED screen itself. Definitely worth getting the OLED over the LCD in my opinion.

"The 64GB and 512GB Steam Deck LCD models are being phased out. Once sold out these units will no longer be available."

This gives me hope that maybe we'll see an OLED discount around Black Friday if these models sell out and don't re-stock. Sounds like maybe the 256gb LCD model will stick around as more of an entry point.

Who games at 60 hz? Worse than a smartphone that has 120 hz.
The millions of people that use Nintendo Switches or Steam Decks maybe? I guess that you know better though.

I have base model and regret it becuz screen just aint great.

Get the OLED. It has other improvements like massively faster WiFi standard and increased internal hardiness for opening closing repeatedly
I have the base model. I paid $279 for 64 GB plus $90 for a 1TB drive. I don't regret it at all. I think that I would regret spending $650 for an OLED

Yet a certified refurbished Galaxy S21 that costs only $200 has double the hz than this and lasts for hours gaming...
Yeah an S21 can play God of War, Forza 5, Jedi Fallen Order, and Assasins Creed Valhalla at a much higher frame rate than a Steam Deck and last much longer. Come on. That is a RIDICULOUS comparison. Like saying that a Tractor isn't as fast as a Porsche. They are 2 different things.

More likely theyre just trying to clear the lcd stock and only sell the oled models.
I think that they are keeping the LCD to have a low price point. Similar to the way Apple keeps old models around. Steam makes money from game sales too. They want to have cheaper hardware in the product family as well.

Would love an OLED discount. There's no reason to get the LCD version at this point
Right. There is no reason to get an LVD if you can't afford an OLED or don't want to spend that much money. Zero reason to get an LCD.

Unless 512GB is not enough storage. Then you may as well save the $40 towards a larger drive. For me, 1TB is kind of the minimum comfortable amount of storage. Games are big!
The kind of games this is going to be best for are probably not going to need that much space, but I guess it depends on the person. I have 512gb version and I have around 30 games from steam installed with tons more old games. Of course, if you want to jam pack it with games you'll never actually play then yeah, 1TB is the way to go

Why would someone want to repeatedly open and close this up?

If you're a spec sheet gamer the steam deck is not for you.

As for me, I'm a minimum friction to gaming gamer, making the steam deck perfect for me. Wait till the fam and wife go to bed, grab my deck and go to town.
While I agree with you, we really don't need to know what you do with your deck after your family goes to bed...

Interestingly timed with when the Switch 2 is supposed to be announced... I imagine the Steam Deck might see more deals soon?
Valve puts these on sale frequently.

No reason... except for the giant price difference? $200+ more for OLED. Obviously they're trying to make the LCD version more appealing by putting it on sale.
