Agreed.

Any tricks to make this cheaper? Like can we get Steam cards at 10% off anywhere and use them for this?

… it's a $300 handheld that needs to balance resolution, refresh rate, and battery life. Not a $2K desktop for you to run Fortnite at 300 FPS.

Show me the S21 running the new God of War, or Last of Us, or Cyberpunk 2077 like the Steam Deck can.

the android version of Genshin is objectively the worst version of genshin to run barring the base PS4.

Apple has exclusivity over 120hz refresh rate feature and is the only mobile platform with official controller support. the PS5 is the only platform with enhanced textures. PC opens up the settings options, has the least compressed assets, allows you to super sample render resolution, unofficially mod and has controller support.

basically android lacks all of the above because of exclusively deals.

the platforms do not even remotely run the game "equally"
Do iPhones support 120Hz on Genshin? Iirc, only the iPad Pros had that option before. Mind, the M1 iPad Pro can't deliver a smooth 120 fps. Iirc, even the M2 has slight dips here and there.

The Android port being sucky may also be partly due to performance requirements. I'm guessing most folks around the globe can't afford USD 1000+ high end Android smartphones so the devs are probably optimizing for mid-range hardware.

Who games at 60 hz? Worse than a smartphone that has 120 hz.

Me, for like 35-40 years now? Sure, I messed around with pushing my CRTs but I wasn't exclusive to those higher rates.

If you can afford it, get the OLED the screen is worlds ahead and it has a number of other nice benefits including a small performance boost and significantly longer battery life. But it's really the screen that's the killer feature. Pair a 512 OLED with a 512 SD card for less intense games and emulation and you've got an amazing piece of kit.

120Hz is almost pointless as the chip won't be able to run many games over 60fps anyways All the reviews show a sweet spot of 30-60fps for most modern 3D games..

Interestingly timed with when the Switch 2 is supposed to be announced... I imagine the Steam Deck might see more deals soon?
More likely theyre just trying to clear the lcd stock and only sell the oled models.

love my steamdeck 512gb w/ matte finish @ $330. have not been tempted even once to sell and go oled. also, saw a youtube vid talking about a 3rd party ips screen upgrade and Valve added the necessary code into SteamOS to make it work seamlessly with OS updates. gamers are actually pretty lucky that Valve got into the online game distribution first, rather than some company like apple, MS or EA etc etc. they're ruinning a business to make money, but at the same time they aren't totally corrupt and greedy either Big Grin it's not in their business plan to screw over gamers every new console generation (like idiots who keep buying the same digital games from Nintendo ever 5-10 years)

steamdeck and switch aren't in direct competition. There's some overlap but a lot of that is on the less demanding indie title libraries. Valve is trying to model their steam os to be easy to use like the home consoles but deep options are there for the enthusiasts/power users. valve is going for the more power, more compatibility crowd (the people who play pc, xbox or playstation vs Nintendo's family friendly and 1st party game niche. Nintendo just models their business after someething like Disney in a bygone era (not very offensive, appealing to all, and also...not pressing for digital only...still offering physical game cards much to the chagrin of sony and ms).

You can use steam gift cards for the purchase yes - I don't know if they're on sale anywhere. Looks like Amazon doesn't sell them.

edit: some options - I don't know if they'd arrive fast enough for this deal or not though.

💯 agree. I almost bought this model last year but I just couldn't accept the crappy screen on this model.

When will the OLED models go on sale? Waiting forever to upgrade from my 256G OG Deck.
A trade-in program would be nice too.

Yet a certified refurbished Galaxy S21 that costs only $200 has double the hz than this and lasts for hours gaming...
And can that play Fallout 76 or Red Dead Redemption 2 or Cyberpunk but NOT through an internet browser?

I see a number of low IQ posts here because they don't understand what these handheld consoles are and what they are capable of. The Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, MSI Claw and a couple of others are very capable, handheld computers. They are not comparable to tablets or phones.

These are meant for gaming PLUS you can actually hook them up to a monitor with a keyboard and mouse then have a actual desktop like you would with a laptop or desktop. You can play games online or offline and use the desktop online or offline.

Instead of saying OMG, this has 60hz! Its hot garbage! Or that you can game "longer" on a older phone or do things better with a tablet. Go ahead and be bias when you have no idea what they are actually capable of when you have not even watch 1 single video about one or even tried one yourself.

Most people to be honest lol.....every console, and the Switch even drops lower than 60.

Not sure what planet you think you are on. But it isn't a real one.
