If it is an online purchase using the debit card, yes.
Any other online transaction, no.
The only sure-fire way is to have it taken from your paycheck. ADP and most other paycheck companies will allow you to add a second bank and transfer an exact amount. Do that for one paycheck to transfer the $500. Once that is done, fix ADP settings and move the $500 wherever you want it to be.
*The definition of a qualifying Direct Deposit is an electronic credit (greater than $0.00) of your salary, pension,
Social Security or other regular monthly income deposited into your new checking account by your employer or
outside agency. Transfers made from one account to another, or deposits made via a branch, ATM, online transfer,
mobile device, debit/prepaid card number or the mail are not eligible direct deposits.
- Yes. One or more direct deposits totaling $500. My humans haven't made those yet. I am transferring one cent each from their next paycheck, just to make sure I have the routing numbers are right before sending $500.
- The account has a minimum balance of $500 to avoid fees.
- Self-checkout at the grocery store or gas pump. Scan one thing (or pump half a gallon), pay, repeat fifteen times. My humans will do this at Kroger with 2L bottles of soda.
- You can close after receiving and transferring out the balance (subject to funds availability policy). You aren't required the hold past that.
- You can close the account anytime without penalty (but do it too soon and you won't get the bonus). There is a $30 fee for closing a charged off checking account, but if you behave yourself and don't create a negative balance, that won't happen. Be a financially responsible human.
- You should get the bonus within 4 weeks of meeting all the criteria.
Also a neat thing Truist does is they give you a separate login/website to track your progress on getting the bonus. It will tell you if you have made the required transactions, and when. That's kinda nice.
