I been holding out for a long time for this deal and I'm ready to bite the bullet. My use case for this is that when I'm working, I'm sipping coffee, but always hated it getting lukewarm. I was going to buy a knockoff version, but I didn't want to spoil my experience with a potentially bad product. I also didn't want to pay over a hundred for this also.

For my travel needs, Yeti has proven to be above expectations. On a hot summer Chicago day, I was drinking ice coffee. I left my Yeti in the car the whole day until next. The ice still remained even after the blazing heat of being in the car. I don't see Ember replacing Yeti on the travel department, but the normal mug appears brilliant. Hopefully this will meet my expectations.
One thing that should be noted with this deal is that it involves buying a Woot reconditioned item. Woot has a terrible track record regarding purchasing used products and you will get zero support from ember is things go sideways so caveat emptor...

This is dumb product. You can't use regular spoons with it and its PFAS coating will flake off any ways ending up in your body. This is cancer in a cup.

Just buy a cheap cup warmer

The non-replaceable battery complaint as an "older" person I can understand, but the reality it is the vast majority of small scale electronics products that need significant power you simply can't get away with AAA/AA batteries. An iPhone 15 Pro Max has a ~4.5v 4500 mah battery.......to get that with AA's you'd need at least 8 them, it would more than triple the size of the phone.

There's a reason pretty much every small rechargeable electronic has gone away from them, everything from Dyson, to cell phones, to watches, you name it. Now it would be nice if the manufacturer offered to replace them for a reasonable fee, because sooner or later they just end up in the garbage. I'm sure some of it is motivated by making products disposable, but in reality companies already do this by simply making things less durable, even products that don't require batteries at all.

A thermos is an okay solution, but it's also more hassle. A good thermos can keep a beverage over 160 degrees for a few hours, but for most that's far too hot to drink directly from the thermos, so now you have to tote the thermos and a cup/mug to drink out of. Not to mention that if you like to consume your drink slowly you either have to deal with it getting cold in the cup you pour it into, or you have to pour small amounts into the cup let it cool to your drinking temp over and over. I can see use cases for either, but I'm not sure that they really are a 1:1 comparison.

The price does seem high, but average people these days are paying $200 for earbuds, $1500 for cell phones, $500 for watches, $500 for blenders, $300 for coffee machines, $200 a month at starbucks, and $200 a month (if they are lucky) for a cell phone plan, and the list goes on and on. In that respect $100 for a coffee mug that keeps your drink the exact temp you want it, is probably not that out of line. I agree that it sounds a bit crazy for a mug, but if you fit into it's use case it's really not that insane. Heck if it keeps you from going to starbucks on your way to work, you can pay for it in what most people spend there in a couple weeks.

I do agree. I had a bad experience buying a Steelseries Gamedac from Woot that was advertised here on Slickdeals. When I received my product, the bag was empty with a receipt in it. It was difficult trying to get a refund and I had to go to my credit card company to get the charges reversed. In defense of Woot, they eventually complied with my refund. I have purchased many items successfully though from Woot and I know if I do have a problem, I'll go to my credit card company to resolve it. I have very little expectations on relying on Ember to resolve any issue I may have with this product. If the item fails sooner than I intend, I'll just take the L on it.

Spoken like yet another person who doesn't have the mug and has never owned the mug. Well for the record, I have my mug for almost 2 years. I use it every day, multiple times per day. I have probably used it over a 1000 times. Each time i use it, if I have to clean it I do it with hot water, a wet paper towel with dawn. I have NEVER had to scrub it even when coffee/milk is cakes on. I stir it with rubber coated spoons. So in over 1000 uses, my coating has NOT come off and my battery is fine. If you don't follow the care instructions, yes the coating will come off. If you do, it won't.
Simple google search or reddit search would say otherwise. All stains need gentle pressure to clean (even if it is just water pressure from the faucet ), and over time all nonstick coating will flake. You can pamper the mug's care as much as you want, but it doesn't change the fact that these mugs have an expiration date and not acceptable when the MSRP goes for 100+

The only thing worse than this product is the fanboy defending all of its flaws.

And again, the concept is great. After my Ember failed, I switched and continues to use other mugs that does the same thing but is in ceramic form factor so it doesn't flake off nonstick coating eventually and goes to the trash can. But this product needs to step it up and do better if they want to sell people fancy mugs for 100-200 dollars.

Like some comments above, I felt like this mug (14oz Mug 2) was an extravegance reserved for people with more money than sense if you follow. I was very wrong. I got it as a gift (ironically I bought the same thing to give as a gift that same year!) and can't go back. I use this mug almost exclusively to drink coffee (and hot chocolate) now.

At $56 for the mug, I bought two not even knowing who the lucky recipients would yet be, but folks please don't pass this one up at this price. All I hope for now is that "factory reconditioned" doesn't mean "hoping you don't notice it doesn't work". I'll keep an eagle eye and hit up Woot's warrantee with a quickness if so.

Why not just a Yeti or some other kind of vacuum mug? Seems fine for refurb price but looks over engineered to me

What benefit does this have over a Yeti? I use a 20oz Yeti tumbler and my coffee is hot for hours. How long could it take to drink 1 cup?

I received the 14oz mug as a birthday gift maybe 2 years ago. It does work very well if you enjoy taking your time sipping on hot drinks.

I personally wouldn't buy it for myself at full retail price but I think you can occasionally find them on sale at discounters like TJ Maxx and Marshall's.

I find hot coffee especially benefits. Whenever I reheat cold coffee in the microwave it loses a lot of flavor but I find this mug helps to retain much more of it.

I recommend the 14oz over the smaller size. Don't use a metal spoon as it scratches the inside coating and only use a soft sponge to clean it. Also make sure to let the bottom charging coil fully dry before putting it back on the charger.

I drink slowly so I tried one of these a couple years ago. Wife mocked me hardcore. It didn't bother me, because it works for me and makes my coffee and tea enjoyable until the end. Eventually she started to soften her stance and I bought one for her as a gift. She absolutely loves it and uses it nearly everyday.
Even given my penny pinching ways... it would be worth every penny of $150 MSRP and more to be this right and see the evidence EVERY DAY Big Grin.

$50 for a used cup that someone drank out of or pissed in?? Wow someone is definitely laughing all the way to the bank on all the money they made on this from dumb "consumers" lol
If there is piss in the cup I get, I will return it... probably.

Man, I used do "I told you so's" long ago but now I like to hold them in and just smile. They know what you're thinking with just a slight grin. Smilie

Its not "fanboying" if you have real life experience. Maybe you got the old version and didn't take care of it. Dunno. I have had mine 2 years and used over a 1000 times and its not faded or peeling at all. If my cup died tomorrow, I would not hesitate to buy it again. I can afford to pay 100 bucks for something that lasts me years that I get over 1000 uses ( I mean really ? what are we talking about here ? lol) .
Maybe you can't or you somehow feel something has to last till the end of time if it cost 100.00.
At the end of the day, we aren't all in the same spot financially and that's OK.
I consider something that makes my day more enjoyable over the course of years worth it.
