No, your thinking is wrong with Amazon Smilie. I used to think the same way but then I realized that when using my Amazon card they don't let me have any no rush digital credits. Whereas if I use non Amazon card then I do get qualified for that. So I rather choose the discover card and get the digital credits. I used to get many but then they switched it to just having 6% which is worthless when you got small orders.

I often get offers for additional cash back that I must activate to get. I assume there is something I must give up to get the offer, such as giving up privacy; I do not know what. I have not investigated why they do not give it to me automatically without me having to activate. They are very clear about the advantages but does anyone know the disadvantages?

Yeah, I have 5% discount from credit cards at Amazon and Target already. It used to be Online Pay purchase for Discover 4Q rewards. Now, I will keep Discover Card in the drawer this Christmas.

I spend a LOT on Amazon. I have the Amazon card (and also Discover). Now, Discover offers Amazon GCs for 5% off when you redeem your points. Does it make more sense to use the Amazon card or activate and use the Discover card?

Curious what are you buying/spending at Amazon? I'm at a point in my life where toilets paper and household supplies are the things that I'd buy and excited me lol.

Lol I use an app called Vipon to get all sorts of stuff on Amazon for cheap. I also buy most house stuff there, especially when I find Slickdeals. I have cats, so all their food and sometimes litter comes from there. Etc etc etc

The Target category is good for anyone that was looking to pick up some baby stuff. Their car seat trade-in starts next week, and the coupon is good til 10/12, so an effective 24% off on those things if purchased between 10/1 and 10/12.

Target already has a free 5% debit card. So anyone can already get 5% all year. And it's better than cashback because it's just an immediate discount.

Isn't it ALL cardholders?

but with amazon, you get 5% back in AMAZON credits - with discover, you get 5% back in cash (which you can use to buy discounted gift cards) - seems like using discover for amazon purchases is the way to go 🤷 ♂️

yeah, my sister has a TON of digital credits, and i NEVER get offered then anymore. I recently realized it's because she didn't use an amazon card.

I ONLY use my amazon card, because I want to keep my other cards out of my amazon wallet in case I qualify for a "link your citi/amex card to amazon and get X% off".

Guess I've never seen that offer for a wells fargo card, so maybe I'll start getting digital credits again if I use that one 🤞

Not true, you can request the cash back deposit to your bank with Amazon card as well.

They've done this every year? Is there a limit on the gift card amount?
They have definitely done discounted gift cards (10%) every year - often limited to about $300 of gift cards (per person), but I don't think it's ever been on black friday. I have seen it run early in the season, but almost always for a few days about 1-2 weeks after black friday.

That's an interesting find. I'm not sure if I care, since my digital credits usually expire unused, but definitely interesting.

That's true. Mind you, Discover often has better gift card discounts, although currently some of their offerings seem to be worse than usual.

It depends. For example, I usually get Dominos and Lowes GCs. But even at 10% discount, it's nowhere close to getting Dominos GC at Sams' Club at 25% discount. So by not transferring the points to cash then purchase GC elsewhere (in this case Sams club), one will be missing out about 15%-17% additional discounts.

This post is super misleading -- this isn't an Offer for SELECT DISCOVER CARDHOLDERS....this is just what discover announced as the Q4 5% category.

This is why people are confused as to "how do I activate it." This is exactly like every quarter

Thanks for this tip. I had no idea about this; I had always been redeeming the Amazon CC points towards other Amazon purchases, but I didn't like doing so, as those purchases (using points) missed out on getting additional cash back. Would always rather convert the points directly to actual Cash back.
