This is an excellent tracksaw if you are already invested in Makita battery system or frequently rip woods. I have borrowed this tool from a friend before, and it rips plywood sheets like butter. Make sure you get good quality stable sawhorses to seat these above for cutting.
If you are a low to moderate user, WEN track saw systems sold on Amazon seems like a cheaper alternative to get away with. They are obviously not going to be as good as Makita, but for one-off projects where you would need to do several cuts, Makita price tag is still hard to justify.
My main project is to build built-in wall cabinets for garage. I may use the track saw one-off after that, but not super frequently. So I am waiting for a good deal on WEN to show up at some point. The regularly retail for around $185 with 110" tracks and 2 clamps included. And they are corded, which is a bit of a con too.

Seems like a good deal but I don't know where they get $962 as the regular price.
It's disgusting that products sold and shipped by Amazon can use inflated MSRP numbers. This is very frequently done with Makita tools for whatever reason. Sometimes the "list price" is 50% more than actual MSRP. It's very misleading to the average consumer
The MSRP inflation is not just for Makita brands. It's prevalent EVERYWHERE on the internet. I am shopping around for outdoor kitchen appliances. The same appliance, in many cases, has 4+ different MSRPs. It's a joke, but the Green guys in many cases give me final judgment on what the actual selling price should be.
If you guys don't mind cords, I was able to pick up the SP6000J for $260 total on ebay (unused open box) It's an older brushed model but the design looks almost exactly the same as this one. Haven't had time to put it through the tests but I've heard it's a beast. This is a solid deal if you need cordless though!
