Can you please elaborate? The description says TPMS safe. What exactly is ruined?

Additionally, many cars no longer come with spares of any size. To me, this seems like very cheap insurance just in case...

To support your comment, I can confirm that several years ago Costco would not repair a tire where fix a flat had been used. But, I washed it out (it did take some scrubbing) and Sams repaired it without issue (and the tire didn't leak for over 15k additional miles).

Definitely a one sided take. There are many vehicles that do not come with a spare tire and have no place for one. A new tire typically doesn't cost $500–usually half that or less depending on the vehicle. Compared to the cost of the tow and plug, it's not far fetched to assume a new tire ($150-250 for most cars) is the cheaper option.

Pretty hot take. I drive a Miata - needless to say there is no room for a spare in that car. Fix-a-flat is your only option.

The other use case for this is when you're in the countryside and have no other options for hundreds of miles. They give you a can of this when you're up in Alaska or down in Patagonia and have a rental car, because the nearest mechanic could be a several hour drive away and the likelihood of you busting a tire (or two) is quite high.

They do have their place and while yes, I agree that the spare tire is the best option, that's not always a choice.

Bizarre deal.

Only buy this if you're rich, or disabled.

- It saves you from needing to get out your spare tire, because it creates a temporary tire out of latex foam which should last ~50 miles. So if you're completely unable to install a spare or call AAA, this is your last resort emergency fix.
- You will need to buy a new tire. A lot of shops will refuse to scrape all this foam out. So instead of a $50 fix plug it's a $500 replacement. Depending on the shop, they might refuse to install a new tire, since they have to scrape the rim too.

I did it once and brought the tire to Costco for the warranty and they are pretty upset and told me don't use those products again.

Thanks I was just about to ask can I use this and then have the repair shop plug the tire. But after this info I'll still stay away from this.

Yeah when I bought my car I chose the smallest rim possible and tires are between $110 and $160.

And for my other car I can get tires for as low at $68 on avg. But I've seen it drop as low as $46 I think. I didn't buy as I didn't need tires as I just bought some. But even race tires they are less than $220 each. $500 replacement tires sound like high end off roading tires or tesla tires. I've heard those get up to over $400 easy.

Yes, there are higher end tires that are $500+ but they're not common at all. Go look up winter tires for an Audi RS5 or something. Not a common vehicle though.

This was to be a replacement option for tire plugs. No shop will repair the tire if I do my own tire plug. So when I'm in an area of no service, if the leak is very slow I will see if I can just keep putting air in and drive back to cell service then tow to repair shop. If it's really rapid and it wont hold air i will just use a tire plug because what other option is there when you have no cell service for a tow.

In the older cars that had donuts - I would always go out and buy a full size cheaper wheel and tire to replace the donut with - just so I'd be able to change a flat and keep going on my way. I don't think new cars even have room for a full size tire and it's sad to read some don't even come with a donut spare. I'd buy one of these for cheap insurance just in case my spare is flat (does anyone keep their spare filled up?). I always like to have options and $6 option - knowing it could cause additional repair costs is good knowledge.

Not much different than the green slime in terms of the tire repair folks not wanting to fix a tire repaired with it… why you may ask? Because it is messy, it is sticky as hell so when you break open the patched tire, or on the rim this stuff and the green makes their job harder. You must insist that they repair it because theoretically it doesn't mess up the tires. It makes their job harder tire guys job harder and no body wants to work hard., so just sell them a $200 new tire. In addition to the car tire repair patch, this product is excellent in trailer tires, bikes, wheel barrows, dolly, spare tire, scooter, etc…. Would input it into a $300 tire, no. But it would be fine in any value car tire that you wouldn't be going to the big box to repair. There is a real place for this product.
