Isn't this just two of the LN1301? If so, the LN1301 models are only $20 each.

The MX8000 pack is just two MX4000's and they absolutely DO NOT have 6ghz
They are same as LN1301, except:
Stock firmware has mesh available by default with no (very minor) workarounds.
USB port is active in stock firmware.

I still recommend LN1301 over this since all you lose is USB port which most people running factory firmware won't use anyway.

Anyone know if hardware wise these are similar? Can the LN1301 be flashed with these firmwares?

Edit: Nevermind, looks like the latest firmware for the MX4200 is from 2022. So, really old.

Ln1301 is a mx4300. It has 1gb flash and 2 gb RAM. These are mx4200 with 512/512 ram and flash. This makes the firmware not compatible with each other even though the rest is the same including the board layout.

How do I add the mesh capability if I buy multiple LN1301?

You dont add. There are multiple hidden menus on the ln1301

If you click on "CA" on the bottom right of the webgui, it enables the mesh configuration page.

Network storage probably, but really most who want network storage will have a separate solution for that

How to enable mesh:
Setup your Main router completely.
Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding.
Log into your main router web admin.
Click on CA at the bottom right.
Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.
Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.
Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.
Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.
Disconnect Ethernet and wait for blue light again.
Move node to desired location.

Are there any other routers that work similarly to LN1301 that are budget friendly? Really just need 2.

Did you just use the default firmware or tried openwrt?
