Most people don't need a remote display on this.

There are a number of Bluetooth multimeters in that price range, Bluetooth being the cheaper alternative to a wireless display.

I use both. I save my expensive multimeters for precision work that requires high accuracy, a fast update, 1000A range, or odd waveforms. For everyday use I have a few $20 to $50 multimeters around. I find a cheap 20,000 count (4 1/2 digit) is often more useful than an expensive 6,000 count multimeter like this one.

If you only intend to measure extremely low voltages of 120VAC or less, then the cheaper meters will most likely be all you need. Albeit somewhat rare, meters have been known to fail disastrously, particularly the cheap varieties. So if routinely dealing with dangerous voltages, the risk of using a poor quality meter is simply not worth it. And, as others have mentioned, here you are also paying for the ability to move the display out of the 'line of fire'.

Most people don't need >200hp in their cars either... but there's >800hp cars easily obtainable.

I don't get what you're trying to say here... yeah, if it don't fits your needs/budget, then why you looking/care?

for general home use... none, just buy a cheapo unit or just a light you plug in the outlet, because i doubt you'd use it for more than that.
for things where precision matters, it matters and is worth the cost... that said, this has a detachable face... not a generic Walmart/HF unit.

safety. this meter will not melt or blow fuses when you put 460-480 volts on it.

Unfortunately, Amazon has too many fake products to take a chance on something like this.

More moving parts = more places to fail. I trust Fluke but the 87V has mA and uA so the 233 is not good for electronics. Plus some old reviews state the horrible battery life. Get something more flagship like the 87V. I was able to pick up the Max version for $349.04 ($529.57 regular price today).
