Interesting choice for a CPU -- a low-end Snapdragon that runs like a very mainstream older Intel CPU. What's the point then, AI only?

I would stay away from snapdragon laptops due to app compatibility issues. It is so frustrating when a app just refuses to work.

Agree, Software/device compatibility is the number one thing before talking about battery life and performance. Plus Intel Lunar Lake laptops will be available next week (similar battery life and much faster GPU). I think the price for these laptops with Snapdragon chips will go to around $500 level as they just do not move off shelf from retailers.

X86 ecosystem in laptop/desktop is just too big/strong to ignore. Same thing for ARM in mobile device.

It depends, I think this would be good for my mom who I know will never do anything outside of a web browser plus occasionally MS Word. It's fairly light and the battery is much longer than a traditional CPU laptop. It was to expensive when it launch at $1000, but $750 seems much better for a high-end facebook machine.

For myself I just need it for light use, for answering emails, video calls, YouTube, and web browsing while on vacation and business trips. I'm sure all the programs I want to use there are native versions for it, or work through emulation. If not, I have a x86 machines available to me to use.

The battery life is appealing to me.

The compatibility is an issue right now, but I think the situation will probably get better over time.

Just hoping the lack of demand plays into my hands and I can get a great deal on one of these.

It still makes zero sense for your mom.
Go with AMD or Intel CPUs that can run executables and are compatible with the last 2-3 decades of apps and everything.
Snapdragon hype is meaningless.

Efficiency, the battery life, heat and power draw are significantly lower on the SD chips. There will be more performance optimizations in the upcoming years that will make them even more powerful right now they're on par w/ M1 Macbook chips basically.

Good read on this particular bottom-end Snapdragon CPU, it's sub-par efficiency, tested in this Asus laptop.

Overall, only slightly more efficient than Intel and AMD with the compromises of compatibility and GPU.

For those considering this laptop, my favorite reviewer on YT did a review:
