This device is for playing emulated retro games (i.e., 80s to mid-90s console and arcade games). If he can play Fortnite, he ought to be able to play the older, generally simpler, though oftentimes more difficult/less forgiving, games.

I don't have this particular unit, so I don't know what games it comes with (if any), and I can't speak to how much setup is necessary to load up games (which you or his parents would need to do first), but my 7 year old enjoys trying out the old school games from my youth on a similar device (Anbernic RG35XX). He had no problems playing it when he was 6.

Agree with the above, BUT, buying something like this will require some technical competence on your or another grown ups part--you have to download special games ("roms") from certain websites to put onto the device. There are lots of guides on YouTube for this, but it's beyond the capabilities of a 6 year old...someone would need to do this for them.

I have a 6-year-old grandson, who has a Nintendo Switch that I got him for Christmas, a couple years ago. And, from what I understand, he really enjoys playing Fortnite on it. Would this likely be something that he would enjoy playing with it? Or would it be too advanced for him, at his age?

If someone wouldn't mind replying and sharing and feedback about this device, I would really appreciate it.

Also, thank you very much, to the OP, for posting this deal on here, for others to see.

Any ideas if this would be better than an r36s? N64 super smash Bros on the r36s is playable but laggy during the big arenas.

This device and the R36S have the same RK3326 chipset, so you could expect pretty much identical results from this one Smilie

Thank you very much, for the reply and the feedback and the link to the other device (which, unfortunately, is a little too expensive, for my situation, though), y'all. I sincerely appreciate it.

I don't really understand the market for these underpowered handhelds. I have a phone that can emulate up to GameCube with its snapdragon 865. If you have a laptop just make yourself a batocera drive. Batocera is pretty great.
ergonomics and price, pocket-ability, etc.

there's tons of reasons why. for what would be the same price or less for a dedicated controller to go with your phone, you could have a whole separate device that plays just what you need. Not saying that that is the greatest reasoning, but as someone who's done the controller with this phone thing for a little bit, yeah, my phone can absolutely play whatever i throw at it, but it's incredibly long and kinda heavy, so docking it on TOP of something like an xbox controller feels awkward, and docking into one of those retractable controllers it sits right in the middle of feels uncomfortable to hold because of the screens aspect ratio.

Not saying you don't have a point, because even i was astonished with the fact that my galaxy s21 from nearly 4 years ago could play ps2 nearly flawlessly, but there are reasons why you'd rather an separate device.

To use your phone you'd most likely want a telescopic controller like Gamesir X2 or similar. But a lot of people do not like the experience. For one, phones have an extremely wide aspect ratio, 16:9 devices basically don't exist anymore. So you'll have black bars and an extremely wide device. But also, your phone is a phone. You will have constant notifications, messages, or phone calls that take away from it. You also have to sacrifice your phone battery life every time you play. Having a separate device for that solves all that. It might be mostly a mental thing but I prefer having a dedicated gaming device, vs adding it on to other things I need my phone for.
