Nah. I'll be honest, I got this thinking I'd use it for a lot of things, and have never used it other than to test it out. I'm no pro by any means, just a typical homeowner who hoards tools. If I could go back, I wouldn't buy it

considering the deal minus the 4ah battery at 79 is currently +26, this deal is shit-hot

And, this deal includes the charger, which the $79 deal does not.

Honest question - I build my own basic furniture as a hobby and I have most of the basic power tools (miter saw, circular saw, jigsaw, router). I understand the convenience of having various other power tools but I'm trying to acquire just the essentials because storage space is at a premium at my house and I also don't want to buy tools that I only use on rare occasions. Is something like this a tool that I could use regularly and make my life much easier?

No. For furniture built, you can buy furniture quality wood boards or plywood. You will need table saw, orbital sander, drill and screwdriver of course.

I bought this for the occasions where I needed to plane down some boards since often my stock is irregular. However I find the use to be an exception rather than a rule. If I standardize my process and can obtain consistent quality stock, I seldomly have a need. Hence, I don't consider it essential, especially when I have my table saw near by. But in those cases where I'm without a table saw, it's earned its spot in my toolbox. It's all but replaced my belt sander as my tool to adjust tolerances. Personally, if I were you, I'd invest in a table saw and make a straight/tapering jig.

This has helped me make small slices off of installing new railing and bottom of doors and a few other things. I'm glad I bought it and it works really well but I agree with others that it's not an often used tool. I'm sure I paid a lot more than this sale price! Great deals on other Ryobi that someone else posted in the feed. thanks!!!

I use my power planer (not this one) for shaving shitty subfloors and cleaning up some construction lumber.

I doubt this cordless planer is -that- useful for furniture, though I'm sure you'd find a use sometime...but I'd probably pass. If you plan to build from rough stock, you want something like a Dewalt 13", not this (and you'll need a joiner too, or build a joiner sled for your planer, there are options). And you'll likely find a hand plane more useful for some stuff as it gives you better control (and maybe a better finish? I've never used my power planer on nice lumber, just construction grade).

Check out stumpy nubs on YouTube. He has a great tutorial about electric hand planers just to give you an idea
