How much do you expect for a non-carrier promotion for a 4-year old base model phone?

AT&T & T-Mobile offer $1K value for iPhone 12 with their premium plans. Many are buying it for trading in with their carrier. Already got a 12 from Metro last deal, which was $50 more.

Keeping my current phones (13 and higher) as spares so I can trade these in instead for less.

If you don't auto-pay or extend service, there is nothing to cancel. You just stop paying. Based on what I have read, device should auto unlock after 12 months from activation and continued service is not required.

Check out the unlock policy link I shared earlier.

A year and half ago, I bought a couple of Metro's Moto G Stylus 5G phones. Then, we had to wait 180 days to unlock. I brought 2 of the phones out of the country but I could not connect to Metro's server to unlock them after 180 days or even after a year. I just brought those two phones back to the US and was able to connect them to Metro's server and unlocked them immediately.
The next time you find yourself in that situation you can try using a vpn to allow the phone to connect to the unlock server.

Do you know it is easy to get account # and transfer pin from Metro? I plan to transfer to Visible, never used Metro before. Thank you!
It is available online. Request your port out PIN which will be sent to your phone.

I went to AT&T corporate store tonight and got my $1,000 credit toward iPhone 16 Pro.

I also went to Verizon website and entered the IMEI and it was accepted there for trade-in also.
If you do this trade with verizon, how long do they keep the phone locked? And how long do you need to be in service? Can i stop the service after phone is unlocked?

What did you use them for while out of the country (in VN?) and they were still locked? Just used on WiFi?

I used them on wifi in VN while waiting for the 180 days unlock period. The unlock period is now 1 year. Now that I brought them back to the US, I was able to connect to the unlock server to unlock them immediately.

I received my 2nd iphone 12 but I have not opened it and the line was activated because I gave the IMEI to Metro customer service. If I don't renew or pay next month then if I sell the unopened phone, can they be activated if they put their own metro sim card?

Ya but the phone has your metro sim in now. Wait 30 days before plan expires or be careful who you sell it to because they can use it and get you in trouble . But yes the phone works with any other metro account as long as you switch SIM

The two iPhone 12 that I bought from Metro in mid-August didn't come with physical SIM. You activate them with the eSIM. If the phone was never opened and connected to Wifi/Data then the eSIM doesn't get downloaded to the phone. Of course, I would wait until its service has expired or transferred to another phone before selling it.

The two posts above me are right

But I do think there's another option, which is to go into Metro portal online and change the IMEI to which that SIM is connected

Then the SIM and plan you've purchased cannot be used with the phone, and the IMEI on that phone should be freed up to be used by another Metro user (they'd just change the IMEI to the one of new phone on their own online portal)

Be careful, though, because you can only change the IMEI while you yourself have access to Metro portal

So if you sell or give away the phone before changing IMEI, you won't be able to get back inside because you need the SMS code to log in

In that case, you have to go to Metro store and pay through nose to do it

Don't ask me how I know lol

'Here's how it works: Sales tax applies. You'll need email & ID (to verify your name & address) to sign up. Heads up—if you want to move to a less expensive rate plan during the next 6 months after getting this deal, you'll need to pay $50 to change plans. An activation charge of $25 may apply in-store. You can get deals on up to 4 lines. This is a limited-time offer and, like everything else in this crazy world, is subject to change.'
