How much do you expect for a non-carrier promotion for a 4-year old base model phone?

AT&T & T-Mobile offer $1K value for iPhone 12 with their premium plans. Many are buying it for trading in with their carrier. Already got a 12 from Metro last deal, which was $50 more.

Keeping my current phones (13 and higher) as spares so I can trade these in instead for less.

If you don't auto-pay or extend service, there is nothing to cancel. You just stop paying. Based on what I have read, device should auto unlock after 12 months from activation and continued service is not required.

Check out the unlock policy link I shared earlier.

The two iPhone 12 that I bought from Metro in mid-August didn't come with physical SIM. You activate them with the eSIM. If the phone was never opened and connected to Wifi/Data then the eSIM doesn't get downloaded to the phone. Of course, I would wait until its service has expired or transferred to another phone before selling it.
So if you get this deal online they still charge sales tax on the full price of the phone?

Metro only charges tax on the discount price, or zero for a free phone. Total Wireless charged me tax on full price of a free phone. Both for same location in Kansas, so they can't blame it on different tax laws in different states.

interesting the confirmation email i received once it shipped says:

Activation date: 09/21/24
Mobile device number:xxxx
Billing account number: xxxx
Monthly recurring charges: $75.00

I used a virtual number and I could care less but "recurring" looks like they'll try to charge me again next month
I activated the phone before Ive received it and I cant log into my account without it

Auto pay is off by default. They don't keep your credit card on file. Yes, they will show a bill for the 2nd month but they can't force you to pay it. Just don't click on PAY. I've bought over 10 phones from Metro since May last year, using multiple accounts. Never had to pay the 2nd month.

I called one store near by and said crazy price as $265 with promotion and asked why that much and they are not able to explain breakdown and simply saying tax and activation etc like that

You can do that with the My Metro app or their web site. Log into your account, look under Account and there should be an option to SWITCH PHONE. Provide the eSIM number and maybe EID of your personal phone and it'll do the transfer. If you want to get the i12 unlocked eventually (after 12 months), leave it active on Metro for a few days before transferring its service to your personal phone.

Don't go to a Metro store, you'll get scalped with tax on the full price, activation fee, mandatory insurance, case, and whatever charges the sleazy salespeople in the store can dream up. Most (if not all) of them are Authorized Dealers and not Corporate Store, so they can do pretty much whatever they want.

In case it helps anyone porting a Google voice number. Your acct number is the number of the Phone Number you're porting. That easy. The pin is 1234 or at least that's what worked for me.
The pin is the code you set to retrieve your Google voicemail. Maybe the default is 1234

Metro will ask for the zip code also. I've always used my own zip code, but some people used Google's zip code in CA.

metro-by-tmobile website fraud algorithm is pretty flaky and stupid. they'll ip block you based on public records.

person 1: ordered: iphone 12, a9+, a9+, g stylus 2024...then blocked
person 2: ordered: edge 2024, edge 2024, then blocked
person 3: pending
person 4: pending
person 5: pending

but if you have friends, families, and relatives, it makes for a great game. 2 can play at this game Wink
