How much do you expect for a non-carrier promotion for a 4-year old base model phone?

AT&T & T-Mobile offer $1K value for iPhone 12 with their premium plans. Many are buying it for trading in with their carrier. Already got a 12 from Metro last deal, which was $50 more.

Keeping my current phones (13 and higher) as spares so I can trade these in instead for less.

If you don't auto-pay or extend service, there is nothing to cancel. You just stop paying. Based on what I have read, device should auto unlock after 12 months from activation and continued service is not required.

Check out the unlock policy link I shared earlier.

By "ID", I meant the information they are using to uniquely identify you as a real person. I suspect they might be using the information you have supplied (your name, address, credit card number, etc.) to do a soft credit pull. If you're a new customer, you'll be presented some questions. If you answer them correctly, you'll be able to order and your identity will be stored in their system. If you don't pay to continue the service after the first month, you'll likely be blocked from becoming a new customer again. It doesn't look there's a household limit, though. So if you have another adult in your household, that person can become a new customer.

So it's futile if you try to alter your name, use a different card, or change the shipping address once you're flagged. You need a new person that they can identify to be real to set up a new account with them.
Last year right before they closed all of the corporate stores, I was told by an employee at a corporate store that even though the free iPhone 11 deal at the time was limited to 2 lines per account, there actually wasn't a limit to how many accounts a person could have/create. I sort of regret not getting more than the 2 iPhone 11's that I got. Anyways, it sounds like that door has closed.

Indeed they use pubic records for identification. It doesn't matter if you're changing email address (which I believe is never used as source of id anyway), mailing address or credit card number. You will be blocked if your id has already been used for prior deals, though I do not know if they ever purge your id from their "blacklist" after a certain period of time.

I first used my id to play the game back in March and I thought an iPhone 12 for $100 + a month service was a good deal to be used for as a trade-in device with my carrier (Metro's parent company!) when the 16 series was released. In May I played the Samsung tab game using my wife's id as my own id had apparently been blocked. In August I used my son's id to play the tab game again. Almost all credit card numbers I used are shared in the family. And I also used the same address for all orders.

When iPhone 12 was dropped to $50 (and finally to $0), I wanted to play the game again, hoping I could just use carrier-locked 12's for trade-in since the 12's I purchased earlier had become unlocked and I could probably sell them for a decent price. So I tried my daughter's name. I got to the point when I was presented with some id verification questions. But none of the questions applied to her - she only turned 18 last month and apparently there's not much info about her yet. So it didn't work as apparently those questions are about someone who has the name name as my daughter. What a relief they have depleted the inventory of iPhone 12

I think they have also changed the algorithm to disallow more than two devices per account. Back in March or May, somebody discovered a trick to place multiple orders by connecting one of the Metro devices just activated to the Metro/T-Mobile network. But that trick didn't work for me in my August tab game.

BTW, a redditor posted that iPhone 13 will be available for $100 next week (https://www.reddit.com/r/MetroPCS..._now_free/ [reddit.com]). Not sure if that's going to happen as Metro doesn't even sell 13's. Maybe they'll have new shipments from Apple? In any case my love affair with Metro is over. I'll see if they get me off the blacklist next year
You should try again in 6 months and see if they unblock you.

ip12 showing in stock at the moment (was out earlier). Just (finally) picked up 2nd ip12, and $50 cheaper than I'd expected a couple weeks ago. Smilie (Plus, still a week left on my first month service!)

Tried porting my Google Voice number and got this message:

"Sorry, we couldn't reserve your number.
We're weren't able to connect with your carrier to get your number reserved. Please continue with a new number, or visit a store to complete your number transfer. Promotions may vary in-store."

Got the email from Google saying I had to unlock my number for $3. Did that and now Metro says that number can't be transferred. Another waste of time trying to get a deal I don't need

After a failed port in, Metro held the number for about 6 to 8 hrs. Try again later

Metro only charges tax on the discount price, or zero for a free phone. Total Wireless charged me tax on full price of a free phone. Both for same location in Kansas, so they can't blame it on different tax laws in different states.
Yeah the guy at the store said they charge tax on the full price. Obviously he didn't know what he was talking about or was trying to discourage me from getting it online so he can bag the commission. Phone's in stock now btw

So is there any need to open the phone's package once I get it? My plan is to sell it unopened. Is that possible?

The people at the store KNOW what they're doing but they're less than honest about showing you what they're doing. A friend of mine in AZ went to his local Metro store last year to buy an S23FE which at the time was not available online. They charged him sales tax on the full price, a case, "mandatory" insurance, etc. After getting out of the store, he looked at the printed receipt and it showed only sales tax on the discounted price, a difference of about $68 in taxes. He asked them about the difference, they refunded him $68 and the cost of the case. You have to be on your toes if you go to a Metro store. They're like a bunch of hungry, sleazy car salespeople and will try to confuse/rob you with all the extra charges.
