How much do you expect for a non-carrier promotion for a 4-year old base model phone?

AT&T & T-Mobile offer $1K value for iPhone 12 with their premium plans. Many are buying it for trading in with their carrier. Already got a 12 from Metro last deal, which was $50 more.

Keeping my current phones (13 and higher) as spares so I can trade these in instead for less.

If you don't auto-pay or extend service, there is nothing to cancel. You just stop paying. Based on what I have read, device should auto unlock after 12 months from activation and continued service is not required.

Check out the unlock policy link I shared earlier.

Metro no longer ship a physical SIM with their iPhone 12. Activate it using its eSIM. You'll need to turn it on, turn on Data/Wifi so it can go to a Metro/T-mo site to download the eSIM to the phone. Search for your order on Metro web site using your order number, last name, zip code. When you find it, scroll down and click on the yellow ACTIVATE button. It'll walk you through what to do.

Thanks i was able to activate directly from "cellular" option in iphone settings

Be careful with how Metro manages multiple lines in the same account. Let's say you activate the 1st phone on 9/25. Its service will end on 10/25. Let's say you activate a 2nd line in the same account on 9/30. BOTH lines will expire on 10/25. The unused 5 days of the 2nd line will be treated as partial credit toward the 2nd month, if you choose to pay the 2nd month. So, you won't get 1.5 month of service like you thought.
Thanks for the info, that makes sense. So my back-to-back plan will only work if I use two plans from different accounts. Which means that I'll probably have to open both phones as I'm assuming it's not possible to receive the security code from a different Metro account. Which is ok as I was thinking of using these two ip12's as travel phones (for when we need physical SIM) to replace the SE3's that we're currently using. If I'm able to order a second ip12 on each account after the first ones arrive then I'll be able to keep those unopened.

Just checking if there is any hold or something on my account.

Received the phone and got it activated today. Trying to login to my new Metro account and it's asking for an 8 digit Account PIN. I dont remember setting one up during purchase. So I clicked on "Forgot Account PIN?", but it says "Something went wrong while serving your request".

If you have a UPS account, you can log in and see if there's any incoming package. Sometimes I'd see it before receiving the "Order Has Shipped" email from Metro.

You cannot complete purchase unless you created the 8-digit PIN. Call or chat with Metro support. They are fairly decent.

According to NumberBarn the porting can take from 3-7 business days to complete. Have you checked the status of your number in NumberBarn? Both of mine from this morning still have the status of PORTING AWAY and when I open the details it says "This number is being prepped to move out of NumberBarn"

I don't know if numbers from Numberbarn are considered by Metro as "non-cell phone" numbers and take longer. GV numbers have the same problems. I ported two GV numbers to Metro in mid-August. Got an email from GV on Day 29 from activation saying it was completely ported out of GV. Got another email on Day 31 (after Metro service had ended) saying the 2nd number was ported out of GV. Before that, my Metro phones could make calls/texts but incoming calls/texts still went to GV. Thankfully the security texts from Metro went through a different method (not cell texts) so they went directly to the Metro phones.

This is porting issue with Metro. Call 611 . Ask them to forward you to porting department. Tell them you are having porting issue, they will help.
Do not tell them your not able to make outgoing calls, they will give some other reason.
