I have the Atrium 5's which aren't terribly larger than these and I think they're pretty amazing for the price. I live in Kansas and I have had mine on the back of my house under an elevated deck for patio listening. While they are "covered", the deck allows water to drop through, so they've been exposed to all of the elements. I've had mine for about 6-7 years and I've never brought them in for the winter, so they've been out and exposed for that entire time and they sound as good as the day I got them. If you're concerned about longevity, my experience would lead me to tell you not to worry.

Get a small 2 channel amp and a Chromecast Audio (if you can find one). We ended up using an older Echo dot for ours because everyone can cast to that vs Chromecast Audio only working for some apps for iPhone users. The 5's get uncomfortably loud and the S.M.S.L. amp I use is 50 wpc and I never turn it past *maybe* 40%, and that's only if I'm out in the garden. If I went any higher it would be in the uncomfortable territory.

Anyway, long comment, and I'm sorry. I definitely recommend these, and especially at this price. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Edit - I forgot the reason I commented in the first place. Don't buy speaker wire for these. I purchased a 50ft exterior extension cord from Wal-Mart and cut to fit and stripped it down for connection at the binding posts. Braided copper wire for a fraction of the price you'd pay for exterior speaker wire.

For just over $100, what can we anticipate from Polk's premium speakers?

I have a pair of these connected to my outdoor patio TV through a small, 2-channel amplifier. They are more than sufficient and have lasted me years, even though my TV has not.

This a great deal for very capable outdoor speakers!

If you're expecting Martin Logan type sound at $27 a speaker, keep moving..... cuz you're in the wrong thread!

I had a pair of these outside on the deck. Too small and one of them filled up with water after a couple years. To their credit, it still plays after draining the water but I ended up moving them into the garage out of the weather and buying the bigger (8") speakers for the deck to actually get some bass in the music. Would not recommend these for music or out in the weather unprotected.

I have these from a previous SD for 100.00. Use them on my patio and the sound is great. You need to remember what price point you're at but absolutely not bad for the price.

Sometimes atrium 5 open box goes on sale at similar price. 5 is much better than 4.

That is a huge variable to ask. They are outdoor speakers, so there are a lot of tradeoffs in sound quality for durability. I have several friends that work for Polk and have made speakers in the same factory they use. The issue is volume levels outdoors usually need to be higher and I am just pointing out that is a pretty small driver - especially for outdoors. Probably fine for low levels but music is pretty demanding on drivers, even more so on small ones.

I have two pairs of these. A pair I installed about 10 years ago and a second pair I installed this Summer. They are great and the 10 year old pair still look and perform flawlessly. Of course the fact that they were installed under the overhang helps keep them less exposed, but they are 100% outdoors and working like a charm. $109 is a steal for these quality outdoor speakers.

How is this deal compared to the Yamaha Audio 2-Way 120W Indoor/Outdoor Speakers for $50?

Elecan Pro Series 14/2 Outdoor Speaker Wire Cable 50 Ft 14 Gauge AWG with Tool Kits-Direct Burial in Wall CL3 CL2 Rated-PVC Jacket&Film&Cotton for Home Theater,Car Audio Speaker,Stereos-Black https://a.co/d/45gTqva

Isn't something like this for $15 cheap enough and better than using an exterior extension cord, which will be around the same price? This one also comes with a tool kit...any suggestions?

That actually seems like a good deal, but it's CCA instead of pure copper. I'm 95% sure the extension cord I got was stranded pure copper. If you're not exposing them to the elements or in a place where your weather will be similar temps year round I think that would work great. CCA is prone to corroding and can suffer more from oxidization, so just know that going in.

Still, that's a good price and a good find!

CCA becomes brittle over time and only allows about 60% of the current that pure copper does. Might was well run tiny 20 gauge copper instead,
