Beware of bikes from Walmart. Very low quality. Biggest problem is chain that will keep falling off.

I agree 100% I bought a 20" Kent bike for my daughter and had to take it to a bicycle repair shop because the chain kept popping off. They wound up having to replace the rear axle.

You can do the math for your own situation, but buying a quality bike from your local bike shop can often be cheaper in the long run. It'll come professionally assembled, there'll likely be zero maintenance costs, and when your kiddo grows out of it, it'll still be in good enough shape to resell or pass on to the next kid. And all the while your child will be riding a nicer safer bike.

this is under $60 , can get Allstate protection for $7 for 3 years.. so under $70 for 3 years..can it get cheaper ?

3 years for $7 is probably too good to believe. I'd be sure to read the fine print of that insurance plan very carefully before relying on it to take care of a poorly built bicycle. For example: Is there a deductible? Where does it need to be taken or sent to for repair? How many hoops do you need to jump through to get a claim satisfied? Will they deny claims because it wasn't assembled by their authorized assembler (an extra $59)?

Walmart coverage is pretty good provided you get the one that includes owner use/abuse. It's also all in your app now. File the claim, get the giftcard, done.

My son got this bike for Christmas last year and It has held up so far. It has a mounting hole for rear brakes if you decide to upgrade it later. I put an odyssey 1999 set on his. The only problem I had was trying to find training wheels that work for it. I did not have problems with the chain falling off like another person said on here. I think it is not an issue with the bike itself but who ever assembled it.
