I have 2 of these in my homelab. These are AWESOME little workhorses. I outfitted both with 2x 32GB SODIMM, 1x HP 940 Pro 4TB NVMe, and 1x 2TB Sandisk Ultra SATA SSD. Very quiet, very cool, seriously fast, and not much more than you'd pay for an off-lease 9th gen Optiplex Micro.

Caveats:
- only 2x USB 3 ports, this has been annoying a few times but I just use usb-c to usb-a/3 hubs
- semi-proprietary PSU will be difficult to replace in the future
- firmware updates are rare, suspicious at best
- the intel nic has poor support in any server-like OS, even Windows Server. I use a USB 2.5 dongle with a really low end Realtek chip instead, works fine for that
just normal price,
They don't. That was my mistake, edited it. They only ships Windows with models having SSD and Ram.

This likely doesn't have w11. That said, win keys are tied to motherboards in my experience. One can experience this when taking a windows harddrive out of one pc and putting it into another. It will start complaining and require calling windows support to ask them to port the license to the new motherboard.
It's actually a max of the various components. Think of it as a weighed test key. Some parts are worth more than other parts in the weighting, and changing out a drive, or a video card, doesn't change things much.

That's a pity, I usually look for intel NICs for my lab machines, as the packet forwarding usually a lot better. Does it need some kind of special driver for Linux?

Not likely but maybe. If you want to game older titles at 1080p 780M is a better bet but at that price ($450+) you are better off just building a small PC or refurb and putting in an Arc card or old Nvidia the like which will serve you better. Some of the newer ones have Oculink which will let you run eGPU so you could upgrade later but I still think a dedicated build will give you more bang for the buck.
Agree with refurbs, especially if you are not worried about cosmetics. Even grade B will give you run for the money. Put newer SSD or NVme and decent VGA card and you are good to go ( did this since my couple last builds ). Refurbs help me not to care much about upgradability, once you are not happy just get a newer refurbs and move along the storage or even the RAM.

What's the better deal and bang for the buck, this deal or this one:
Ace Magician Mini Desktop: Ryzen 7 5800U, 16GB DDR4, 512GB SSD, Dual Lan, Win 11 Pro $269

Definitely Ace Magician -- comes with malware preinstalled for free. This one doesn't even have a disk, let alone software 🤷

Yep. 680m is about twice as much GPU as the steamdeck, so if the steamdeck can run it at 720p, this should be able to run it at 1080p (fast memory is the bottleneck, pay a little extra for DDR5-6000)
Don't waste your money, these chips do not offer the ability to run faster RAM, it will only run at 4800mts (or is it 4600, whatever the standard is) no matter the rated speed of the RAM (I tried). The only chips with a 680m that allow that I think are the 6900HX and it's variants and even then the manufacturer has to support it on the BIOS.

I use one of the 7735's above, I game at 30fps (VSYNC, like consoles) medium/high in most optimized games and low/medium in harder to run titles (Horizon 5, GTAV, Batman Arkham, etc are an easy 30 on high+, but Cyberpunk is more like 30 locked at low with a few mediums and Doom Eternal at like 900p on low/medium locks at 60).

If you have to have 60fps because you are a keyboard/mouse player, or you're a PC gamer who is accustomed to the minimum playable frame rate being 60fps (again cuz you're sitting on top of the screen and probably using a KBM), even a 780m system (a 5-10% uplift) won't get you to locked 60 either, even the newest chips out that have the 890m in it are hitting it but without a ton of headroom (and they cost a grand). Halo Strix looks like it might change the game but that's going to be "build a full PC with a real GPU" pricey when they drop.

However...a 780m system can turn on both Frame Generation and Scaling options that the 680m cannot support. Keep that in mind.

Thinking about this to replace my 9700k iGPU. It's cheaper than 8600G+AM5 ITX, especially since I'm using this mainly on Chrome. Gaming is always on PS5.

Not commenting on the price at all - but this could make for a decent little Bazzite/Steam TV box.

I have had one of these for a year or so running in my proxmox cluster and have had no problems with it at all. I have certainly had zero issues with the NIC and it ran correctly on a vanilla install.

this ram thermal throttling pos? for the price I guess it's ok but there are 6850H minipcs for the same price and they don't have the thermal throttling issue cus they added a fan at the bottom (GMKTec m7)

Do you have experience with the GMKTec M7? I'd been trying to decide between these two the last few days. I was leaning towards the M7 primarily because the cooling looked better and possibly quieter. It also uses dual NVME and the IO is a little better.

I wonder if liquid metal cooling is actually liquid metal on the CPU die or fancy marketing for using heatpipes? If liquid metal, is it contained well? Can anyone confirm?
