I picked up a pair of these from Woot last summer when they had them for $40. Overall I have been very happy with them and they have held up extremely well for me.

I own standard airpods as well and personally I like these a little better but that recommendation comes with some caveats. The big caveat with these is that the fit and size will not be for everyone. When I first tried these I thought they were extremely uncomfortable and almost returned them. However, after trying the different provided wings and eartips, I finally found a fit that worked for me and i now I don't notice them at all. Even after getting the fit down there will still be a bit of an adjustment if you are used to airpods. These are definitely heavier than airpods and if you don't get the sizing down they will fall our of your ears or place unwanted pressure on your ear while running.

Once I had the fit down, I grew to love them and they are now my go to exercise buds. Personally, I think the sound is fuller than standard airpods without going overly bass heavily. The available control app from Yamaha offers preconfigured and custom equalizer options to help tune the buds to your preference. Battery life has been excellent for me and I normally go a couple of runs/rides without having to charge them again. The case is also pretty solid but there are not strong magnets holding the buds in so they can pop out if the case is dropped.

I will say that AirPods are still probably better day to day earbuds just for ease of use, assuming you are an iPhone user, but if you want something for exercise and you can find the right fit, these are hard to beat for $50.

How do these compare to the base AirPods?

I purchased a pair of Yamaha ES5a earbuds in July 2023. They are enormous! Frankenstein big. I also found them uncomfortable and prone to falling out. They currently sit in a drawer with less than 3 hours of total use time.

Big and clunky compared to what else is on the market. Sound on them is good. One side stopped connecting after dropping them on the gym floor. Debating if I will repurchase.

If they had ANC, I'd give these giant erasers a try.

Can you comment on how loud they get? I've had issues with finding bluetooth earbuds that get decently loud. (yes I know this can be unsafe)

The Sennheiser momentum 3s are very loud... 100 bucks on Woot. One of the loudest I've owned are the Between Pros... can be had for ~80 bucks on Amazon.

I'd avoid these earbuds. Most likely a Chinese rebrand. I got Yamaha buds before and they were alright, but you can just get the same buds for 20-30% less without the Yamaha logo.

Anyone with experience using the "Ambient Sound" on these … specifically listening to music / podcast while cycling in traffic and being able to hear enough for awareness? Thanks!

Doesn't have active noise cancelling. That's a nonstarter. ANC makes a big difference in noisy environments.

Has anyone slept in these by chance? Been looking for a decent pair that doesn't hurt ear when laying on side. Gotta watch my true crime docs to fall asleep. 😋
