Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

so use that. verizon gave me the same thing. let the modem/router hande all the DHCP ip assignments etc. put your linksys devices into bridge mode. hardwire your master node to the xfinity gateway. then hardwire the other linksys child notes to your master node. this way you will have wired backhaul supporting every node and serving your entire home. all IPs assigned by the xfinity gateway -- port forwarding etc. and your linksys devices will merely serve wifi throughout the home. can use the lan ports on them also if needed.

and i woudl turn off the wifi on the xfinity gateway -- both the 2.4 and 5ghz channels. they arent needed.

The installation is similar to DD-WRT. The reason you feel intimidated is because the initial firmware OpenWRT release didn't have luci, which is the GUI to configure the router. You have to SSH to the router and install luci. There are other builds that already include luci as well and here is one such build: https://github.com/arix00/openwrt...0/releases

Initial install instructions are here: https://www.reddit.com/r/openwrt/...utm_term=1

Where are you getting your info from ...for example the fact those releases including luci? I don't see that documented anywhere on the notes for the tag? I'm not doubting you so much as wanting to keep track of future developments.

This router is huge and takes up alot of space. I returned mine since it could not connect on the Linksys app and needs to be accessed through internet browser. I use Linksys Atlas 6 and decided to get the same nodes on ebay.
I can connect to my linksys ios app locally ( do not register) and can see my connected mesh noded configuration.

Web based does not show connected mesh-nodes

It is small compared my tmobile ac1900 with external antena.

Atlas 6 is dual channels. This deal is three channels.

Can anyone tell me how adding the child node actually works?

Just as a test I have the parent linksys set up pulling dhcp from the modem/router. I set up the second linksys as child and go through the CA setup and the second linksys is still broadcasting its default wifi.

It sounds like you are in the setup for the second router when you follow the steps? The steps for setting up the child are done via the parents setup page.

these linksys devices have 3 bands. that's something most people overlook/don't understand. you have a modem/router handling DHCP. you have a parent linksys connected to that modem/router. i am assuming it is hardwired to it. and i am assuming you have your linksys system in BRIDGE MODE. once in bridge mode, all the linksys devices will act as repeaters of the modem/router. the CHILD that you set up to connect to the parent, it is connected to it (wirelessly i assume?) over that third band, a dedicated 5ghz band that only uses certain channels. all the throughput from the linksys parents is sent to the child over this untouched, uncrowded 5ghz channel. and then the child rebroadcasts all the bandwidth over its other bands, the traditional 2.4 and 5ghz you are used to. so if you are seeing SSIDs being spit out by the child and parent, that means you arent in bridge mode and arent even operating in mesh. each one is just acting as its own independent router spitting out its own SSID

Ordered another. For anyone on the fence, this is great deal. I am using this in AP mode but even as a router or as a mesh system, IMO you can't go wrong. The stock software is not as robust as what you will find with an ASUS product, but there is no consumer router that will come close to what ASUS offers either. Plan to use the next one as a stand alone router.

to be fair, if simply using in bridge mode as a mesh system, the stock software/interface do not matter. all the important stuff will be done by the primary modem/router or whatever.

In for a third. Let me take 5$ off again. Takes a bit of time to arrive but they work out of the box. Mine also came with international outlet plugs.
As adapters? Or that's the actual plug on the end of the cord?

The included power brick just has contacts on it and has 3 different connectors that can slide on to it for different outlet types. So you can use this router with different types of outlets but you couldn't use them for anything else.

This ebay listing shows what it looks like.
