Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

Does that node maybe need to connect through another child node to reach the parent? I get the impression from previous replies that might be where some issues crop up. In other words, if you have a parent node, then a child node, and then another child node as you get further from the parent, that double-hop from child -> child -> parent might be where problems arise. Not sure if that's similar to what you're seeing, but just trying to get a better idea what's up.
In my case, it's just one hop. The child is connected directly to the parent.

The switching works fine for me. Occasionally it doesn't switch fast enough as it's hanging on to weaker signal from a further way node and if that happens, I disconnect and reconnect from my wifi SSID and it will reconnect to the closest node. Will yours connect to the closest node if you do that?

Have you checked your wifi signals? Try using a wifi signal scanner like Wifiman from Uqiquiti. In that app under the Scan section, if I click on my wifi's SSID, I can see wifi signal strengths for all 3 bands for the parent and each child node, it also shows which node you are currently connected to.
If it's a laptop, does the "roaming aggressiveness" setting in the Advanced tab of the WiFi make any difference to have it switch to the stronger signal quicker?

No similar setting on my phone which I'm seeing that behavior on. Most of the time it switches correctly.

I'm pretty sure that's Wi-Fiman only shows connection to the main router unless you have unifi system. Mine always shows the main router. I have 6 nodes.

I have the Linksys 1301s in a 3 node mesh and theur Android app will show which specific access point node and band you are connected to, doesn't work in iOS though.

Canon laser without a network port? You sure?

Check that it doesn't have just a temporary plastic plug in it that can pull out. I know HP used to do this so you can use the USB cable to setup as WiFi when printer had no screen.

Stock firmware working fine for pretty much everyone it seems. Yes only basic mesh but surprisingly no headaches. I'm still going to try alternative FW but not on the 3 I have running my network...I somehow bought 3 more to play with once people make it easier. I used ddwrt, tomato etc decades ago was so so good
Yeah, it's a Canon D530 - only USB and no WiFi/networking according to the specs. (it's my parent's printer and I'm wondering if I can get this set up for them using the USB on this Linksys as a print server to share it to the network)

Yes
That's the only way that I am able to see which node devices are connected.

How does it display each node?

USB port is not enabled in the default firmware. You'll have to switch to a third party firmware.

You can also see which nodes are connected by using a web browser and logging into the default gateway as long as you're not in bridge mode.

Is there a way to set up a wireless bridge on stock firmware? I'm not new to networking and so far could not make it happen.
It would help to actually read the discussion first. Its not that hard - go to page 1, and right below the OP, there is a wiki community board that has collated all the basic how tos including setting up as an AP/bridge mode. I have set up 3 AP. Two as single AP, one as an AP with 2 child nodes/mesh units.

I have the same model. I cannot figure out how to share it over my old Netgear router.

Yeah someone else mentioned that. I'll try openwrt or ddwrt.
