Note that the previous thread on this has a massive amount of technical discussion about practically every aspect of this router and detailed setup instructions etc. If looking for answers, I'd start with a search in that thread (terms like OpenWRT, DD-WRT, stock, CA, mesh, USB, throughput, wired, backhaul, bricked, etc). That may be a good start for those new to it, as it probably already answers a lot of questions that are sure to crop up.

Also, here's a link to some of the basic support docs for it from the Linksys site …

Tons. Some more commonly used features not available on stock firmware includes better buffer bloat handling with sqm, using the usb port for a media/file server or printer server, vpn support along with vpn split tunneling. That's just the tip of the iceberg. But whether or not you need any of them is another story.

I just got the 2 nodes, I already have an older Linksys mesh system, can I use the 2 I got today as primary and add additional to the existing router ?

On Stock - How can I use DHCP from pihole on this , there is no option for dhcp forwarding and as soon as I turn off DHCP on this , DNS becomes greyed out too ,
Other thing I am trying to do is get rid of domain or DNS suffix coming from ISP with automatic configuration which I think I can do once DHCP and DNS is pihole .

Last thing - how to disable ipv6 for local network on this thing

And mesh is flaky with DDWRT , tried WDS and mesh mode , both had issues with dropping connections randomly

Seems many also have trouble with the child nodes with ethernet backhaul. I'll quote myself for some context.

So last night after restarting one of the child nodes for the 3rd time, it showed that it connected via Ethernet. Then hours later I checked again and it went back to wifi for whatever reason. Just for fun this morning, I moved the Ethernet backhaul cable from the WAN port to LAN on that child node. Powered off and on and it reconnected over Ethernet. It reconnected much more quickly too - the red light blinked 3 times and it turned solid blue.
Yes I've been using 1 wired backhaul using the marked LAN port. 3rd node is wireless.

I think I read it doing wired backhaul for more than 1 the. The next must Daisy chain to the 2nd node? I could wrangle this how my house and patch panel is wired.

Not sure why this would be true, doesn't seem logical. Just what the setup picture shows. Of course for most impossible and wireless backhaul seem fine for me

802.11s rocks in openwrt (qosmio's NSS tree) and have been using for the past few weeks and it's one heck of a setup. I don't even need one but ended up buying 5 after seeing how good it performs with a parent + child nodes spread across the house. Lol

havent set mine up yet but stock firmware doesnt support file/printer server? had intended to connect printer and drives to the mesh nodes around the house.

I'm flashing my routers to DD-WRT. First time using it. Super simple to do. Way better than stock firmware. It is very zippy/fast, and has way more features.

BUT I have made an important discovery. Stop what you're doing. Follow along and read...

Inside DD-WRT. Click the Administration tab then click the Management tab. Scroll down until you see a section called "Web UI Styles" click the bubble next to "Enable Dark Styles" to enable that feature. Apply the setting and save. Your GUI is now in dark mode. My eyeballs are saved... and yours too! YOU'RE ALL WELCOME!

The killer feature. No way I'd ever use stock firmware after that.

If you are planning on plugging a usb hard drive or a usb only printer into the usb port of the router and running the file or printer server from the router itself then no. The usb port is disabled and there's no file or print sever software on the stock firmware. Would need to install ddwrt or openwrt.

If using a NAS or something else with it's own file/media server already and you are just connecting it via ethernet or wifi to the router then of course it should work. Same if you are connecting a printer via wifi or ethernet.

If you're so pumped with ddwrt, I'm not sure what will really happen if you try openwrt... The interface is fluid and adjusts according to the screen size and there are a myriad of great features.

Yes, openwrt has a dark interface as well. 😂
