Various Digital Retailers have Crying in H Mart: A Memoir (Kindle eBook) by Michelle Zauner on sale for $1.99.

Thanks to Deal Hunter phoinix for finding this deal.

Available Retailers:About this Title:
  • Author: Michelle Zauner
  • Page Length: 239
  • In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother's particular, high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother's tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food.
  • As she grew up, moving to the East Coast for college, finding work in the restaurant industry, and performing gigs with her fledgling band--and meeting the man who would become her husband--her Koreanness began to feel ever more distant, even as she found the life she wanted to live. It was her mother's diagnosis of terminal cancer, when Michelle was twenty-five, that forced a reckoning with her identity and brought her to reclaim the gifts of taste, language, and history her mother had given her.

Massive massive trigger warning if your mom died of cancer.
I've been crying in H Mart myself. Short ribs are $18 lbs now when it used to be $9.99!
Haven't read this yet, but I highly recommend her band, Japanese Breakfast.

If you are trying to make a joke, there are only a few in the produce section...way less than the variety of potatoes at an American store...

But this book is a great read. It deals with the difficult themes of loss and grief, and complicated relationships between parents and child.

Story about korean and korean mart not japanese
No you don't understand. The author has a band named "Japanese Breakfast". But otherwise yes, the author is mixed Korean. The story is not so much about H-Mart but more so about the author's relationship with her ailing mother through her Korean recipes.

No. They were just trying to be acute.

Oh, you should totally equate yourself with the author. You're surely as talented!
