As a full time software developer, I notice switches start wearing out after about a year of use. Its a lot easier to swap a switch and be back up and running instead of finding a new keyboard every time.

I have a stack of keyboards that I'll fix "one day" when I have time to de-soldier switches.
Too bad not hot swappable switches.

I won one of these from a lan I went to. Definitely is a $35 keyboard, but probably the nicest $35 keyboard I've used. A great budget option for sure.

How often does the average KB enthusiast swap them out? Is it not easier just to find a KB that fits what you prefer or build one yourself?

I see the appeal to mix up different switches on particular keys, but yea. Seems like it'd be less hassle to just buy a separate keyboard.

As a full time SOFTWARE DEVELOPER, you should be able to get a brand spanking new keyboard after about a year (even the nicest mechanical keeb). The time to remove all keycaps, pull out every single switch, and put in the new ones are not worth it for individuals like you.

That's fine. But what other name brand keyboards at this price point have hot swappable switches?

That's like somebody complaining that a base model Nissan Versa doesn't have massaging seats or active noise cancellation in the cabin. Like, no shit dude. Why would any sane person expect those features at that price point?

I found this [amazon.com]keyboard but it's not exactly a household name...

Yea, like I mentioned, I have a stack of keyboards that I've already done that with. Its usually justt (<- example here, chattered T) one switch that starts having issues, can swap just that one and then be back up and running.

Name brand keyboards are horrible for having hot swap-able keys. I've been using this keyboard the most for the last 5 years (although its been rebranded since I bought mine): https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical...08T9BMVJ6/

I am also a developer and I haven't replaced my rosewill cherry MX Brown keyboard for over 8 years. Zero broken key switches. I only had to resolder the mini USB port once because my kid decided to yank the cable out. Maybe you type too hard?

Are those better than optical ones? I figured that optical would be the next big thing, but I don't see them too often in products

Building one yourself is ez?

Nah man. I don't have time to learn.

Just need to swap out here or there.

Not often but I want the option.

This looks like a great accessory for those hand held computers like the asus ally. Next is a decent but affordable wireless mouse.
