My Samsung C43J890 43" monitor died after a flakey 4 year existence leading me to reluctantly go monitor shopping. The specs for this LG caught my eye on Micro Center and the price was heavily discounted, so I took the plunge. So far it *far* exceeds the quality of the Samsung it replaced and any of the issues others reported when it was first introduced aren't plaguing me (i.e., earlier chipsets in Macs and some Windows machines couldn't properly align sync rates). I'm getting excellent results with my Nov 2023 14" MacBook M3 Pro as well as from my 2024 (?) ThinkPad P1, both of which are able to drive it at full resolution in HDR. There were only 4 in stock at my local Micro Center and pricing may vary depending on location.

It's a 5k 2k monitor (5120x2160).

5120 (5k) = width of 5120 pixels.

2160 (2k) = height of 2160 pixels.

BTW, it's ultra wide, and the PPI is exactly same as 27 inch 4K monitor

I paid $900 for this damn thing a year ago. And it's like been out for ~5 years.

Works great as a MacMini monitor, images are sharp and clean and so is the text—my other 34" 4k LG monitor the text and everything looked a bit blurry. But this LG monitor the text looks great. I did a ton of research and there's an informative thread on one of the Mac forums that goes into great detail about this monitor.

edit: From the Rtings link:

It's a large monitor with a 5k resolution that allows you to display many things on your screen at the same time, and it's great for multitasking.

To take advantage of the high resolution, you must use a DisplayPort connection. If you use an HDMI cable, due to bandwidth limits, the resolution is limited to a maximum of 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz. In this case, the recommended resolution is 3440 x1440 @ 60Hz to respect the 21:9 aspect ratio.
I had no idea...I have been running HDMI from the MacMini to the monitor all this time. Does this mean if I get a DP cable and hook it up (from my new Macbook Pro M3 16") to this monitor...will the text/etc look even better?

Thats so nice. My local one also shows same price. But I have a 38 inch curved ultrawide, but 1800p. Wish it was a 2160p ultrawide. Miss my previous monitors 4k sharpness. If this monitor was curved I might've got it. I had a 32 inch flat 4k monitor and felt edges were too far away. 2160p ultrawide would be my idea sharpness. Great deal thought!

This will look best through either a Thunderbolt cable (it supports Thunderbolt 3) or DP. HDMI will definitely not be as sharp. The picture is great on this.

The 60hz refresh is the downside, but the resolution and tight DPI and support of Thunderbolt 3 are awesome.

This isn't a gaming monitor.

Can you use this as a two separate monitors? I was looking for a monitor 5120×1440 with PIP / split screen but I don't know if this will be a better choice.

I've had this monitor for a few years now and it's been rough. I use it for design work and it has been finicky with all 3 of my work provided MacBook pros. There are resolution issues that will sometimes make my mbp go black. Sometimes the ports need a little wiggle to work and it has started to flicker a bit.
