Arguably Papa Murphy's is tastier than those options. Obviously just an opinion.

Solid deal if you need a lot of pizza.

Keep in mind that Papa Murphy's pizzas are really large and they use a ton of toppings. The "family" size basically touches the edges of a standard width oven. Two of those for $20 could reasonably feed 10 people.

They also don't charge sales tax so what you see is what you get. One 14" large specialty pizza at Papa Johns is $20 after tax. Two 16" large at Papa Murphy's would be $16.99 total with this deal. If you can spare 20 minutes to cook it at home, it's a no brainer.

Not disputing this also happened, but I stopped eating Papa Murphy's when it started costing me more to bake my own pizza vs ordering Papa John's.

Many locations in my city closed. Papa Murphy's accepts SNAP EBT for online and in-store purchases, and when benefits were cut, sales dropped.

I don't get how this chain stays in business. Papa John's and Domino's have ongoing 5.99/6.99 1 topping deals and you don't have to do anything at home... What am I missing?

The overhead of the kitchen equipment, cleaning, etc. at a proper "restaurant" pizza place is significant compared to what is effectively a pizza-only grocery store.

Also let's be real - a one topping medium at Papa Johns is not "$6.99." It's $6.99 + 9% tax + a prompt for a tip + $1.99 for a second topping that you probably want.

Pretty sure Papa Murphy's always has a $6.99 two topping medium (same size as PJ's large) which is clearly a better deal? Dominos, PJ's, etc. are always a few bucks more expensive for a hot pizza. Worth it if you want *hot* pizza but not so much if you want cheapest/most.

I used to be a fan until I discovered Trader Joe's pizza dough, which was like $2.40 for roughly the same amount of dough as a family size pizza from Papa Murphy's. The TJ dough basically became a quick way to make use of any leftover meat/veggies in the fridge before they go bad.

I once bought some frozen bacon wrapped stuffed jalapenos and pesto from Costco. Would use a few of the stuffed jalapenos and cut them into slices while frozen into the perfect round topping. That made so many amazing pizzas over the course of a month and in the end, it was like $4 a pizza.
