If you are riding your bike off-road, I'd strongly recommend to opt for a Podium "Dirt" version that comes with a silicone (or plastic in other companies) cover over the nipple. Lots of...minerals will be stuck on that bottle and it is good not to be forced to put them in your mouth when drinking...these covers are stupid expensive as individual aftermarket options, so better to buy what you need than plan to add them.

Air is also an insulator, these are double wall and a small foam insert in between. The air trapped in the foam is the insulator part.
Obviously, not as good as a vacuum bottle at insulation. But much lighter and more importantly squeeze-able. For me riding on a bike, it's much easier to grab this without stopping and take a drink than the metal vacuum bottle I had before. Not to mention lighter.

I would say in a non-scientific test, I get maybe 4-5 hours of it being cold.
In a cheap target bike bottle that wasn't insulated at all I got like an hour.

I have an insulated and non-insulated version of this bottle. The insulated version definitely holds ice way longer than the non-insulated version.

I usually have the second one as a reserve of just water or will even freeze it depending on heat so by the time I go thru my first bottle I still have something left to drink.

I guess a TLDR - insulation does make a difference.

I use these water bottles (the insulated version does keep ice from melting much longer, btw), and I use these bottle cages on my family's mountain bikes:

These cages are sturdy and look good and are inexpensive.

I bought this the last time it was on sale. Kept my drink reasonably cold on a hot Florida early fall 10 mile run. It isn't perfect but it's acceptable for what it is. I would recommend.

This is a very good price on what I'd call the industry standard bike water bottle. I own a couple of these Podium Chills. I know a guy above mentioned 4 or 5 hours of cold, but that's not been my experience. Even when I use a higher quality Thermos insulated bottle to dump ice cold water directly into my Camelbak bike bottles immediately before I ride — on an 85+ degree day (with a bunch of ice cubes in the bottles as well) I might get 2 hours of chill at best. They're still great bottles, just not great insulators.

As an aside, I know that somebody tested different brands of bike water bottles and how long they kept things cold if anyone is interested - but, again, at only $10, these are still a very good deal, regardless.

EDIT - Just did a quick google and Consumer Reports actually has a free article where they name the Camelbak Podium Chill their top pick. If you read the article, the author had the same experience as me - he said it keeps the water cold for 2 hours, but after 3 hours the water was no longer cold (in direct sunlight).

If you have a 3D printer, print a dust cap: https://m.yeggi.com/q/mud+cover+f...tle+v3+by/

If you're riding for a longer ride in hotter weather, best thing to do is to fill one up the night before and put it in the freezer. Then day of the ride, fill another one with lots of ice and your drink of choice, and pull the frozen one as you head out. The frozen one will slowly thaw and by the time you swap bottles enough will be thawed to be able to drink, but still pretty cool.

Really helps to have "cool-ish" water the entire ride.

For anyone interested in even better thermal insulation, check out the Podium Ice series. I own both and the Ice definitely keeps colder for longer.

I mostly agree, but 2 things - when I'm riding every day in the summer, I never remember to do that in time. And the second thing, when you freeze the contents of these bike bottles… if you're only riding for 2 hours or less, you'll often find the frozen one still has a giant ice cube inside which, ofc, you can't drink. On hot days with longer rides, I usually bring 2 full water bottles.
