A good rule of thumb with anything refrigerating device is to let it sit for 24 hours after delivery to let the coolant and compressor oil settle. After 24 hours of sitting upright and level in the place, it will be in use, then plug it in.

During transportation, these fluids shift around, and if plugged in like that, the oil can block the refrigerant from circulating properly, inadequate lubrication of the compressor causing damage, and decrease efficiency.

I'm pretty positive all of the complaints that we are seeing here are exactly caused by this small detail.

Samsung are some of the worst as far as fridges.

Not to be an a-hole, but I'd probably find a new repairman if I were you. They're clearly not very experienced.

Samsung and LG make nice fridges but...reliable?? Samsung fridges are widely regarded as some of the most problematic [usatoday.com] fridges on the market. LG has literally had multiple class-action [consumerreports.org]lawsuits, including another one filed just this year [nbcwashington.com], regarding its faulty compressors.

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy fridges from either brand, but it's definitely misinformed if not disingenuous to say 2 of the least reliable fridge brands on the market are the most reliable.

I've sold and delivered appliances and worked for repair company on the delivery side. I've heard GE stands for: "Gets Expensive". We had one in display mode go out on us. It was the slate model. Lots of issues with Samsung, and LG had the most new models with compressor or sealed system leaks sitting for recycling.

Mom had the LEDs and ice maker go out on her Whirlpool shortly after the first year, but the fridge keeps working. I think it's 7 years old. That's pretty good these days for consistency. Get one without as many gadgets as possible.

Wife and I just went through hell trying to find a new fridge for our years old Kenmore. Outside the fact we needed counter-depth (which narrowed options to practically nothing), everywhere was trying to hype the LG and Samsungs but I'd done my research. Luckily found a Whirlpool from Costco for $1349 during the Labor Day sales. Fairly modern with bottom freezer and a 4-door layout, but no external features or internal water dispenser. The less bells and whistles, the likelier the longevity!

I got similar one from Lowes few months ago & going on the third repair service, very unreliable. I'm very disappointed.
my kenmore in garage is 25 years old, still going strong. Maybe I should stay put on this one.

I have an old fridge in the garage too that works great. Newer appliances look nicer but aren't reliable..

I just replaced my evaporator motor on my 20 year old fridge that I bought 16 years ago for $200. The part was only $20. These comment sections on fridge deals have me paranoid to ever buy a new fridge.

"Appliances of the past" were designed to "last a lifetime" with minor maintenance and changing out parts prone to failure over time. Then the appliance vendors got wiser. If they design it for life, who would replace/upgrade, and why? They hadn't figured out the iPhone ## trick yet for getting folks to upgrade.

Agree with Hamoodi. My fridge repair guy told me that GE, Samsung and LG are the most reliable. The less gimmicky electronics the better. The ones with lots of electronics break down fast. You just need a fridge that works and reliable.
No way, LG and Samsung is the worst

In for one; thanks OP. I like that it doesn't have an ice maker. Less crap to get broken.

Says they'll deliver in a month.

If you Fridge Guy told you ANYTHING positive about ANY Samsung or LG being reliable...than I hate to say it...but that is a Fridge guy I would NEVER call again.

...and who has a "fridge guy"??

Let me guess, you own a Samsung or LG refrigerator...and now you have a "Fridge Guy" to go with your extended warranty!

They all pretty well suck at this point... many of the issues have to do with all of the energy savings regulations. While a good idea in principle, they've cause many manufacturers to go to much more complicated designs. The class action suits against LG seem to the result of LG having to go away from standard, tried and true compressor technology to more energy efficient (and more complicated) variable speed, electronically controlled compressors. New tech... new problems.

Similarly, many of the failing components in dishwashers, washers and dryers are the result of complex systems designed to save gas and/or electricity as well as water.

Great idea to try to save energy... except when it results in large numbers of dead appliances.

Yes, but the price tag offsets this to the max. For six hundred dollars, even if it craps out in a few years, it is still an amazing deal.
