When trying to activate my phone now(So that the unlock timer starts kicking today), I am being asked whether I want a new number or I want to keep my number. Wasn't this deal exclusively for people who ported in their number? What would happen if I choose I want a new number?
Have the same question

Can someone please answer my question. Is it okay to activate with a new number? Will it cause any issues with unlocking? I am surprised they allow you to activate with a new number even though this deal is exclusive to porting in your number from another carrier.

My guess is this would be ok since it is on a prepaid plan, tbh I wouldn't take a risk and do the port.

How do you know they allow you to activate with a new number? I think in some previous deal, the website doesn't give you the option to activate it with new number. Not sure about this one though.

Haha I chose activate with a new number because I was just curious if they would allow me. I thought I would be able to go back and change it to port in but once I chose a zip code it was immediately activated. I guess I will be the guinea pig

When you log into your account and choose activate they offer you both options. I have just activated with a new number by mistake. I hope it doesn't have any ill effects on unlocking my phone later on.

Interesting, I guess maybe because you just activate it before they "mark" it as "port only", last time, after I got my "deal phone" from total, I think I have no way to activate it with new number.

There are some thing could "backfile", for example, they shipped out the wrong phone, I mean, the IMEI of the phone in your account doesn't match the actual phone they ship... so if that happens, I guess an "activated" phone could cause more trouble to get it fixed....

But that would be a very small chance event so you maybe don't need to worry about it.

1 update for stylus and power. Believe 2-3 for edge 2024. I usually use custom roms on Moto, so not really a big deal long term. Even my z3 has a14.
Any Morotola phone sold by Verizon has locked bootloader, unfortunately.

I'll unlock my G Stylus 5G (2023) from Metro once they stop pushing updates. For the Edge (2024) it may make sense to keep the official software for USB-C video out / Ready For feature.

You can always switch device. The only bad thing is what if they shipped the wrong device model.

I believe you need the original phone to get a verification code to switch device, so it's not impossible, but it is not as simple as just several clicks on the web
