Never had Govee
Does this model require app to turn on/off? I just want strip to turn on using a button/switch and show colors from last setting. Turn off after set timer.

You can program that through the app and then get a wireless switch to control the power.
But if you're not changing the colors very often or at all, there are simpler solutions that don't need Bluetooth or an app.
A light strip, power supply, and a programmable timer plug would do the same thing.
Have these for a year now. They are bright enough - but it depends on your purpose.
For context, one of the reviews says 11 lumens per foot and there's 165 LEDs on the strip and another says it's 2000 nits total, which converts to over 6000 lumens.
Neither sounds very accurate to me.
It's also important to remember that there's no light concentration on a strip when used at full length, so results may vary.
Additionally, the luminance is likely not 100% even across every color, with white typically being the brightest.
