easily fixable by sticking in a streaming device of your choice.

Nope--read the article. Appears when the TV is off. It's possible to disable to settings, but still.

There's already threads about this on Reddit. Something along the lines of disagreeing to every prompt except the mandatory one, turn off the TV's WiFi, and do periodic updates via USB or something.

I dont get it how will TV screensaver override screensaver from say chromecast ?? Also from the article it seems easy to turn off in settings.

Like I said, yes, you can disable if you know how. Also, the TV technically controls the output to the screen. When the TV is switched off by the user, or really at any time, the TV could override the input and instead output whatever it wants to the screen. It doesn't really make sense to override an active input, otherwise no one would buy the TV. But outputting ads to the screen when the TV is selected off by the user is still completely possible. The user would have to literally kill power to the TV.

Really my ultimate point is that for those of us that are reasonably technically savvy, we will be able to override or otherwise address the issue in some way. but think about all the other people that all they know is their mobile phone that will be plagued by the ads.

I agree this is a step in the wrong direction. I would be livid if my TV randomly starts showing ads even when not in use. Imagine get a burn-in on the screen from one of these ads...LOL.

Luckily I am still on a older gen LG Oled that does not show ads.

Honestly, how much do you guys think the 65" C4 will go between Prime sales and Black Friday-Cyber Monday? I'm tempted to pull the trigger on this now with the shipping strike kicking off for who knows how long on the east coast where I live.
Also, does anyone have any feedback on the LG Premium Care warranty from Asurion and what exactly it covers? Their site talked about 3d glasses and 3d TVs so it feels pretty outdated. I'm particularly concerned with what they consider normal wear and tear (if they put an hour limit on it) and if they cover burn-in. Especially if I'd have to ship the panel back to LG rather than take it to a local store and exchange it.

I'm debating this deal now. The problem with waiting until BF or CyberMonday is they may be out of stock since everyone else will be looking then. Plus, how much lower do you think it would go between now and then, maybe $100 or so? Is it worth it to take a chance by waiting and then it's out of stock? I'm just trying to justify if I really need to buy this now with all the other stuff going on in the world.
