Is the 240W rating necessary?

Do these cables every go up in flames if their not rated?

Was hoping for a video cable. The 3.3 ft one I have is like 3 inches too short, so been on the market for a 6ft cable.

Cables with high charge rate and high data transfer rates are not that expensive.

You can get USB-IF Certified 3.3ft 240W 40Gbps USB4 cable for $14: https://www.amazon.com/Certified-...B094STPLX3

Or USB-IF Certified 6.6ft 240W 20Gbps USB4 cable for $18: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matt...B0CCF99VZ9

Granted they are more than $7, but I think USB-IF Certified cables are worth the premium. (And they do 20Gbps/40Gbps transfers.) Good cable basically lasts forever, so you probably don't actually need that many of them.

Any reason to get this over the 2 pack Cable Matters 6' 240w for $6.99 in this SD post?

The main reason would be that these are USB 2.0 cables.

So wouldn't USB 3.1 be better?

Ohhhh, dang, I didn't pay attention to the fact that BOTH posts are USB 2.0 cables.

The only thing "3.1" about them is they support Power Delivery. But yeah, 2 is better than one so you're right of course.

Interestingly the 2 pack are not USB-IF certified. Not sure how much that matters, but I only buy USB-IF certified cables these days after many debug sessions and finding issues with non USB-IF certified cables compatibility.

240W? That must be some nominal value because I haven't seen adapters or devices that can take that much voltage/amperage.

Yes. It has a small chip inside that tells the power supply "I'm capable of 48v 5a". Otherwise you only get 20v 3a.

Most of these big cables don't support fast usb because all the space is taken up by thick vbus copper
