This is now my fav impact tool in the m18 line. Works well with the smaller battery too and a hell of a deal. I bought mine for $20 less with no battery.

Beware this impact delivers considerably less torque than a standard M18 fuel brushless impact. For home usage it's a fantastic tool, but for my line of work it could not get the job done. At least that was my experience.

Yes, it's about 1/4 of the power. This one is about 450, the non surge is about 2,000

Like you said, this one is made to be quieter for "home" use.

I just realized this is the M18 surge, not the M12 I already have. I'm actually surprised they're the same torque ratings, but I guess it makes sense. I wonder what the actual differences are, besides power source. Perhaps the M18 is slightly quieter, since it has more room for dampening? Either way, I love the M12 surge impact I have, especially for office spaces during business hours.

I use my loud impacts for general work where my tools will get beat up, but the surge gets babied a bit more and used solely in places where the sound matters - in finished spaces for finish-type work. Probably my only Milwaukee tool that actually gets taken care of physically. It is much easier to keep it in good condition in such environments, versus outdoor dirt, grime, rain, in attics and crawl spaces, tossed into packed tool bags, etc. The loud units simply get the job done a little quicker though, and neither snap off screw heads with the fasteners I use. This only coming from a homeowner/hobbyist that does a decent amount of construction and carpentry around the property, and for others, but it's my experience.

I'd consider electrician to be home use. Like putting in screws etc that are inside a home where you don't want it to be 120 db and only need a little power.

Agreed. My partner has this and I run makita. He often switches to my driver when putting in lags
