Another thread here for filters mentions to use low MERV rating filters to elongate the life of HVAC systems.

What's the rating of this? Also it says replace every 6 to 12 months. That's a first I've seen as most are 1 month or 3 month filters.

Any way to stock up? (Says limit 5)
I'm good at having back ups, but I never buy more than 2 of these packs (4 filters) at one time. Five of these 2-packs are at least a 5-year supply, and up to a 10-year supply (depending on your house). Unless you have more than one furnace, why would you want more?

For some people here wondering about the cost and duration the filter lasts. You guys are comparing apples to oranges. 4 Inch thick filter vs just a 1 Inch thick filter. The one Inch filter of course is very cheaply available and lasts usually about just a month. So keep replacing every month on fixed schedule. On the other hand these 4" thick filters are designed to last longer. Our newly built house has new & latest everything. The builder recommended to replace the filter every 6 months. Been doing that now for close ton3 years. We have 2 dogs and one of them sheds a lot. We also have 3 winix air purifiers that are always running on auto. Air purifiers kinda help in pulling away a lot of pet hair, dander and dust. In short I guess these purifiers also help in prolonging the life of your Hvac system in the long run. I always buy a pack when goes on discount from costco. A twin pack good for a year. $30/ Year of clean air by a trusted brand name is not bad at all. Hope this helps!

Just be sure to get a MERV rating that matches your air handler system. Higher MERV is "better" filtering capacity but also more back pressure / the air handler will work harder. That might shorten its lifespan. Alternately you could probably run slightly higher MERV but instead replace the filter MUCH more often.

I have never seen them at any warehouse in the last 5 years across 2 to 3 different state warehouses. These are usually on sale online only.

I'm pretty sure the 5x2 of these I'm buying will cost more than the degree they elongate the life of the fan motor, but I like them because they do a better job of cleaning the air and I don't have to replace them every month.

I got these a few weeks ago, and was pretty disappointed. Suspect the price is good because they are factory rejects. The pleats weren't separated and glued evenly. At the ends inside, they seemed to be missing the glue allowing for a gap. Not the quality I was expecting from using the 1" versions for at least the last 10 years.
This is exactly what happened to me as well. The "fingers" were all loose and not holding the pleats together properly. I sent them all back.

Really only an issue if you're using thin 1 inch filters. The 4 or 5 inch filters provide plenty of surface area to go higher MEV.

Ahh.... Missed the 4 inch part.
No wonder they are longer lasting.
With that thickness, it may be cheaper just to put carpet samples in your filter slot.

My heaters don't even accept 4 inch.

Its not 4inch of filter, its pleated, meaning the pleats are longer, enhancing surface area and giving you 6months or so of life which is great. If your furnace was not installed with a 4in box, move on. 4in boxes are optional installations on furnaces when installed because they have to route the return accommodating for the 4in box. These filters are even more important with the new full variable speed fans, they literally never turn off keeping the air moving in the house 24x7 to reduce hot/cold spots vs the old on/off fans.

Good deal.
My furnace takes a 5" filter (20x25) and I never see those on sale. 😒
