They are both two channel class AB amplifiers that allow users to select the audio source and control volume. The Onkyo has a built-in AM/FM receiver, that's what makes it a receiver. But the amplifier functions in exactly the same manner on both. An integrated amplifier is an electronic device containing an audio preamplifier and power amplifier in one unit, as opposed to separating the two. Both devices include and function as an integrated amplifier.

Labels are useless if you don't understand what they mean.

This is a really nice unit, although it's definitely a receiver vs. an integrated amp. (Note the connections for a radio antenna.)

Still an awesome choice for music, especially with a nice onboard DAC. With two decent speakers and a powered sub, this would be very enjoyable.

This post is very misleading

The Onkyo posted is a receiver, and not an integrated amp.

I see no mention in the product description that this is part of the "audiophile line"

this Yamaha is an integrated amp.

If you know, you just move right along. This is pretty obviously not an audiophile integrated amp. Although its spec'd pretty decent if you're new to the hobby or looking for a budget option.

They really need a better word for people who are obsessed with sound quality

edit: The word is Audiophile. Sounds a lot like that other word... you know the one...

I don't think Onkyo is using audiophile in their title for this unit. Blame the poster for adding that detail...

by your definition, all receivers are integrated amplifiers.
i don't see where he actually said that, and i don't see where it's worth arguing over.

he clarified his point in response to your bickering, and you quoted it, and then repeated what he said, which was pointless.

Quote from ucbengr :
by calling this unit an integrated amp is very misleading
o.k., how many receivers don't have pre-amps?

Quote from ucbengr :
since it has a tuner
you should have already known that it had a tuner because it was labeled as a "stereo receiver" in the thread title, it didn't fit your distorted version of what an "audiophile" device is, so you had no reason to keep reading.

Quote from ucbengr :
was misled into this post to see how the Onkyo compares
see above... the only person who "mislead" anyone was you doing it to yourself, lol

I can't comment on this amp, but I've purchased two receivers from accessories4less and never had any issues. I expect to purchase my next receiver from them (but not this one).

This receiver/amp and 2 mid-sized speakers are going to be a huge step above any soundbar out there right now.

I purchased this amp about a year ago from Amazon for around $265. I have it paired with the Elac Uni-Fi 2.0's I also purchased and tried out the Yamaha A-S301BL, Sony STRDH190, and Cambridge Audio AXR100. In my opinion the Onkyo sounded better than the Yamaha and Sony but didn't beat out the Cambridge (which is almost twice the price). Unfortunately the Cambridge had several weird quality control issues like broken terminals and weird buzzing sound from the internal power supply so I choose to keep the Onkyo. The Onkyo has a similar sound to the Cambridge but lacks the punch and separation. Still, for the price, this unit can't be beat. I stream directly from my PC into the unit's DAC for Hi-Res Audio and it sounds amazing. The only weak spot is the Phono Pre-amp which is abit weak, but I use an external Phono Pre-amp anyway.
