Hold, wait until January 2025. That's when 8800xt goes live for $500. It's as fast as 7900xt and has ray tracing perf close to 4070ti.
It may even match or slightly exceed it. It's going to be a really solid offering and more power efficient on the chiplet design.

I suspect $150 by January. yummy
You peeps are delusional, lol. I'll await to see you comment back here in Jan with a link showing a very solid mid-tier 7700XT selling for 150 brand new.

Rumor is there is an over-supply of 6000 and 7000 AMD GPU's in the market and AMD is delaying 8000 series until the old supply runs out, which means we should expect price drops to liquidate the current supply over the next few months.

If this deal looks good just wait a couple months
The oversupply is definitely an issue. Just read their earnings calls or look at AMD filings to see that they're not moving many gaming cards right now. I think you're probably right that we will see some good deals as we get toward the holidays.

I have a GTX 1080 and been thinking about upgrading. I was holding out for the 5000 series to come out so I can grab a 4070 for a lower price, but how does this compare to a 4070?
Is it worth upgrading to from a 1080? I'm fine right now, the reason I even thought about upgrading was for GTA 6 so there's no rush for me at the moment.

Except AMD will somehow drop the ball again and price it at $600, and the Ray trace performance will be nowhere near that of a Nvidia card and their feature set always gets stomped by their rival. AMD always falls on their face and loses more market share. This opinion is coming from someone that wants them to succeed and put up a fight against their rival.

apparently 6800xt is > 7800xt letalone 7700xt. For those okay with used graphics cards, that would be in same price range but better

Me and my boy have been team green since getting into PC gaming 8 years ago. Right now we have a 2070S and want to upgrade to a 4070S as soon as 5000 launched hoping for 4000 discount a bit

Should we try AMD? I worry because I have a buddy who was constantly messing with his AMD in regards to whine and vibration, so he said

Me and my son ONLY car about 1440 gaming and tbh we rarely play new games, most games we play are 2020 and before, and much are way before that going back 8-10 years

Only new (er) game we want to try is Elden Ring
I have my household on a healthy mix of the two manufacturers. My system has an RTX 4090, my wife's system has a 7900xtx and my son's system has a 6750xt. Now, mind you my 4090 cost me $1650 before taxes -and I do love the thing… but after using my wife's system after she upgraded to a 7900xtx I have regrets. Her card cost half what mine did and runs games almost as well -I'm talking if I get 300 fps in a game she's getting like 250. Half the price for way more than half the performance -that's the draw for AMD.

I also have to say that AMD's software is phenomenal. It truly makes Nvidia's feel feature-limited and quite old. We haven't had any issues with drivers on any of our systems -and I will also say that my son's 6750xt system doesn't have any issues running the games we play together at high-refresh 1080p, and the 7700XT is a tier above his card. So long as you're familiar with the correct process for updating to a new GPU I reckon you'd be totally fine switching to team Red if you so chose.

I love Nvidia but their prices are out of this world these days (and I'm a sucker who paid way too much for the best card on the market from them).

So I tend to agree that waiting makes sense right now, but in fairness, we probably aren't going to see tremendously better price to performance/value at the $350 mark in January of 2025. Buying in the more budget part of the market still makes decent sense with a lot of RDNA3 and RDNA 2. If someone really needs a card, and they're looking at this price point, this is a very solid deal.

Agree, though the 8800xt is supposed to be almost 10% faster than the 7900xt from what I have seen on youtube and even the 8700xt will be 10% faster than the 7800xt for about the same price as this. I'm hearing that AMD has pushed back the release till sometime 1st quarter of '25 cause many suppliers are still sitting on too much past stock...might see better deals on older gpus this holiday season. Just my 2 cents what I have seen.
