Traditional potato mashers are too big for single-serving use. This looks like it will work in smaller bowls.

Ground beef, ground chicken, or ground turkey. These things are a must have.
I must be missing something. These meats are already ground. The only one I eat is ground beef, so what does this do for it? I knead the meat very well before making hamburger patties.

My wife bought this and was like "gamechanger!"

As the cook of the house...I kinda hate it. If you use it too early, it gets cross contaminated. It can't flip/toss the meat, either. It's really just a worse version of a spatula as far as meat is concerned...

Potatoes, otoh, it can do really well, but only if you like chunky mash. It'll never get them very smooth, no matter how hard you try.
was about to pull trigger only for potato mashing...but glad I saw your review. Pass

Exactly my point. It comes "mashed", although that is not the process used. I can't see mashing it further.
It's for breaking up clumped chunks of ground meats. It's more of an issue if you buy ground meat in vacuum sealed packs. Most people just use whatever spoon or spatula they're already using to cook with. But using a masher like this makes it easier.

Whether or not it's worth the extra space and extra utensil to wash is up to the individual.

I find a firm/strong spatula way more useful for separating and then scooping meats - I was excited for one of these and now I never use it

Hmm. I think we're using it differently. I put the rectangle of ground beef into the pan and let the one side brown completely, then flip it over with a spatula to let the other side brown. Then I use this masher to break it up. I think it's a fantastic kitchen utensil. I use it several times a week

It's more for making ground beef into bits like you would for tacos. It's actually excellent in that respect because the smash factor of this is greater than something like a spatula, so you can chop the browned meat into finer bits.
