Yes you have to be a prime member. Other way of doing it is to create your own account and add youself into prime member's household. This way you will have your own separate account even if you move outside primary member's physical address and still have prime membership. That's how I have my account setup with my cousin. We split the membership.

It's a great card, just make sure to review the fine print. If you don't pay off the entire balance each month, they charge you interest based on how much money you spent on the card that month, not how much debt you have left. Always plan to pay off the entire balance!

That's strange my mother has a 625 credit score, retired, and only makes 25k a yr and she was approved for a $500 credit limit.

That is not strange at all. Credit card approval from chase depends on many things combined, not only the credit score.
